CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Joe Gibbs Racing signed Kyle Busch to a long-term extension, ensuring he won't be distracted while the team attempts to return him to championship-contending form."It's just nice to have it done," team president J.D. Gibbs said Monday. "Nice to focus on what's coming in the future rather than what's to be done."
Gibbs nonchalantly announced the extension during the team's stop on the annual preseason media tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway. He said the deal has actually been signed for some time, but the team wanted the news out so it can focus on the upcoming year.
The season opens Feb. 14 with the Daytona 500.
This season was scheduled to be the third and final year on Busch's deal with JGR, which snapped him up after his 2007 firing from Hendrick Motorsports. He stormed out of the gate with his new team, winning eight races while leading the points most of the season.
But he tailed off at the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, finished 10th in the final standings, and that inconsistency followed him all of last year. Although he won four races, he failed to make the Chase and his crew chief was fired before the end of the year.
Busch finished 13th in the final standings, and Gibbs wants him back in the Chase and contending for a championship this year.
In addition to rebuilding his Sprint Cup Series team, Busch is also entering ownership this season with two entries in the Truck Series.

Kyle Busch can drive like no other. He is great.
If Gibbs can do for Kyle what they did for Tony then there's hope. Tony was such a major jerk those first few years. Denny is due for a breakout year and "bread" is coming along. Hendrick is still the top dog but the Gibbs crew is coming. Go JGR !!
I didn't like what he did with the guitar, but he sure can run a race car. As he matures, he will turn out to be one of the best. Give him some slack.

Why is it you sit there and down Hendrick and in the same sentence you wish Gordon, Martin or Stewart wins the title. If you say the 48 cheats and Hendrick lets and helps him then why wouldn't Hendrick do the same for the rest of his teams or a team he supplies parts for. If we beleived what all you wanted use to beleive then the whole Hendrick organization and anybody associated with HMS cheats, so why would you pull for someone associated with them. Maybe you do have a little common sense and realized HMS is the best out there and they put in the time and work needed to be the best, or it could be that you just want to pull for a wining team.

The last time I looked Stewart got his equiptment from HMS. Although that doesn't make him a HMS teammate it does associate him with HMS. If you dislike HMS so much and think they cheat you shouldn't pull for someone that gets their equiptment from HMS. Like I said last time, owners will do for one team same as they do for their other teams.
