ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended one week for a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says Griese will not be working a game this week.
Krulewitz says ESPN has spoken to Griese and "he understands the comment was inappropriate."
During ESPN's broadcast of the Minnesota-Ohio State game Saturday, a graphic was shown listing the top five drivers in NASCAR's points race. Fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, who is Colombian.
Griese replied he was "out having a taco."
He has twice apologized on air for the remark.
Montoya is declining to comment on Griese's suspension. He brushed off the remark Sunday, and said he'd never heard of Griese.

We are getting far too sensitive people! It was a joke....the "P.C." movement has left us without the ability to have a sense of humor.
Some comments are hurtful, but in this case, I think it's funny!!

Except it shows his own stupidity - tacos are Mexican, not Colombian - another all-Latinos-are-the-same, apparently, to griese and loubirdling, one size fits all.

Yes, YOU thought it was funny. But he said it in a public forum, and therefore Griese should have had more sense. Of course it was offensive...apparently in your world, you've lowered the bar a bit. I'm just thrilled that Montoya took the high road and said that he had never heard of Griese. Now, THAT is hysterical.

i agree there is a good chance that what montoya was doing. america commentators are eating dirt for everything they say. i tell things like it is and if you didn't know me things might hurt feelings. but freedom of speech and our rights are going fast. people talk faster than they think. and as a nascar fan i am sure montoya in the chase . what this guy says about tacos is the last thing on his mind.

Not about political correctness...it's about accuracy and stupidity. Griese should know that the man is from Colombia, not Mexico, and should know that his quip was not funny, it was dumb. The man went to Purdue University in Indiana. He oughta know better. Would he say that the Irish driver was out getting drunk, the Italian driver was thinking of who he should bump off, the German driver was killing Jews....this is such a no brainer. Nick the Greek got kicked off the air for less.

Agreed. A joke in bad taste is just that - a joke. Apparently JPM doesn`t have a problem with it. Why should we? JPM comes out looking classy by brushing it off. Griese comes off looking like a tard. ESPN and everybody else looks like a bunch of scaredy-cat, knee-jerk, PC pusses. Now, tell me again how JPM was harmed by any of this? Exactly - he wasn`t.

This PC stuff is just too much! There was nothing wrong with what Griese said . . . any more than there was about what Rush said! Let us get back to important things and leave our feelings off of our sleeves.

PJ both Griese and Rush's comments were made simply on the person's race. This had nothing to do with food but attributing the food comparison to a UGLY sterotype. PJ you can hide behind racism but management at ESPN did what was right. They have a code of conduct clause in their employment agreement and Griese crossed the line.

Lighten up Antoine. I am of German ancestry and if someone said I was out eating a bratwurst, I wouldn't be offended. I'd say where's the sauerkraut!

A Columbian would laugh. When I was in Colombia both times, people give directions like, "It the pink church next the "fat man's" store. Or they call each other names like "big nose" or other things. They are not a sensitive people and we have gone way over board with such stupidity. Get a real life you sensitive "bozos".

That's really pushing it. Black people MAY casually use the N word to each other without meaning or taking offense (I can't spell it out here cause I ain't one of them,) though many like Oprah and Cosby would object to its use. There are names Italian people called each other without offense (beginning with G; W; I best not spell those out either) I suppose if someone called me a stupid Yankee redneck I might be offended, but just at the stupid part.
