NASCAR released the two names Tuesday ahead of the announcement of all nominees Thursday night.
More From Bleacher Report: Controversy in Selection Process?
The first class will consist of five members. They'll be inducted in conjunction with the opening of the Hall of Fame in downtown Charlotte next May.
Allison and Waltrip were longtime rivals and are tied for third with 84 victories in NASCAR's top series. Waltrip won three Cup championships and Allison one.
A 21-member nominating committee selected the nominees from NASCAR drivers, owners and promoters.

I am a bit surprised by the VERY low level of inductees for an innaugural class. Please make it 20-25 inductees. Why isn't there more lower level drivers who busted their butts for the love of the sport back in the day? Why aren't there more journalists? Ken Squier did as much to promote NASCAR as anyone back in the BWC (before Winston Cup)days. Why not have everyone who is to be considered be retired as well? Makes no sense to have Childress and Hendrick in the Hall NOW. What about Humpy and Bruton? They promoted NASCAR too.
Look at the 5 who could go in for the 2010 class. Of course Bill Sr. and Jr. will go in. The King and Dale Sr. HAVE to go in as well. That leaves one left. Thats where the checkers or wreckers will come in because only one will win and the rest...Well there's next year I guess.
Change the format NOW Brian before its too late to truly honor those who built what you preside over today.
