INDIANAPOLIS -- Even as Danica Patrick answered questions about her chances in Sunday's Indianapolis 500, Indy Car's most famous driver said Thursday that she remained open to a future in NASCAR.Patrick, who will start 10th Sunday, said she will listen to offers from any NASCAR teams interested in signing her, but reiterated, "this is my home" referring to the Indy Car Series. Her contract with Andretti Green Racing (AGR) is up at the end of the season and speculation has put her everywhere from NASCAR to Formula One to returning to the championship AGR organization.
"It's a contract year and I'm going to look at everything," Patrick said. "I will look at NASCAR."
Patrick, 27, said she can't begin negotiations until June. And when asked during Thursday's annual Indy 500 Media Day at the Speedway if she was courting offers, Patrick smiled and said, "I'm not bringing it up, I'm not slipping it into conversations. .. I'm purely answering questions that people are asking me."
"I'm being very honest," she said. I'm going to check it all out. I guess I'm a little more honest about it than I was last time (she went through contract negotiations) but I'm also more open to it than last time."
A year ago, Patrick became the first woman to win a major open-wheel race, earning her only IndyCar Series victory at Motegi, Japan. Her stardom was already rooted well before she actually won, however.
She first became a household name after a stunning 2005 debut here at the ultra-tough Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She won Indy 500 Rookie of the Year honors, led 19 laps -- the first woman to every lead the 500 -- and her fourth place starting position and fourth place finishing position are the best ever by a woman.
Magazine covers, red carpets, worldwide media attention and massive souvenir sales followed, making her one of the hottest racing commodities in the world.

Speculation that she would leave for NASCAR also followed, heating up during her last contract negotiation in 2006, although she never had an actual offer from a NASCAR Sprint Cup team.
Patrick said she would even consider starting out in a developmental league -- like NASCAR's triple-A Nationwide Series, but "I can honestly say, I would rather just do the Sprint Cup.
"I'm also not the professional in that area and if that's the route we go, I would trust the professionals as to what to do.
"My view is, from when I was 16 years old and was able to start racing cars, I said, 'To heck with it, I'm not going to be a professional go-kart racer, so let's get on with it.' "
It's unclear if a win in Sunday's Indy 500 would make Patrick more likely to leave the open-wheel ranks or more likely to stay. But clearly, the ball's in her court.
"What it's going to come down to is, what are my options team-wise?" Patrick said. "Who wants me to come back? And what's going to give me the best opportunity to win races and have fun?

Ummmmm....People with the winning traditions of Montoya, Hornish, and Franchitti couldn't do it......and Danica thinks she can jump right in?
She's a marketers dream, but that's about it...and that's a product with a very short shelf life, unless she starts proving something on the track.
She's not even the best driver on her four-car team.
It's only a bargaining chip if the other side takes your threat seriously.....

She's pissing and moaning now about drivers that aren't even touching her, what in heck does she think is going to happen driving Nascar? She'll be absolutely livid----on a daily basis. Nascar is NOT going for a leisurely drive on a sunday morning.

She can be Nascars new MPD. I am sure if is selling posters of her in the swimsuit it will blow away the drivers in Nascar today. Some drivers make their money on the track, some make it in marketing sales. Should she make the jump I am sure she will make a ton of money if even for a couple years.

As usual, the drivers from F-1 and Open Wheel think they can just "jump" right on over to NASCAR and be instant successes and winners. How's that working out for Allmindinger, Franchitti, Hornish, Montoya and others? Oh wait, it isn't! And they are far better drivers than Danica with a lot more success and wins in their respected leagues. She has one win and that came last year after how many years in the racing league? At least a few.
I am sorry, I am a woman and this is NOT the woman I want to represent my sex as the first full-time female driver in NASCAR. I could care less that she is beautiful and looks good in a bikini. What matters to me is if she has a hard attitude and the driving skills to back it up, which she doesn't.
She is hot-tempered but instead of coming off like someone with experience when she expresses herself, she comes off as your plain good old fashioned hormonal Bi%^&. Not in MY NASCAR!

Well, even if she went to NASCAR and couldn't drive as well as any of the other drivers, she'd fit right in, because lets face facts "Y'all", NASCAR isn't real racing anyway. Anyone can hop into one of those cars and drive around smashing into each other. It doesn't take talent or skill or anything else, so those of you who feel Danica isn't "talented" enough will have your chance to see should she decide to make the switch. Oh, and PLEASE don't talk about her being a "baby" or a "whiner". NASCAR has some of THE biggest babies, whiners and prima donna's in ANY sport.

You obviously have no clue about racing. To say that "anyone" could drive in NASCAR is the height of stupidity. The 43 car field is seperated by .2 to .3 seconds in qualifing. Patrick could not withstand the NASCAR schedule, handling a stock car and the lenth of the races. I actually hope she tries to get into NASCAR. We will then find out what a whimp she is. When she fails, hopefully it will be the last we hear of her. As for Formula 1, she never would be accepted, aside from the fact she does not have the talent to drive in that series. Very few open wheel drivers have had any success in NASCAR. Montoya has one win in three years. Hornish no wins in two years. Franchetti did not last one year.

Anyone can do it? Doesn`t take talent? Stock cars sent Franchitti and Hornish home with their tails between their legs, moron.

She won one non-important race. Shouldn't she be good before anyone cares what she does. I bet first race in NASCAR she gets put into the wall. Anyway, it would be just another league she won't win in.

Danica will have a problem with the heavier COT. That's why there is no women in NASCAR now.

I am sure she could be better than David Gilliland or Paul Menard. I would like to see her give it a try, it would bring more fans back to the track.
