CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Tony Stewart won his first race as a team owner Saturday night, breaking through for a $1 million payday with a victory in the annual All-Star race.Stewart passed Matt Kenseth with two laps to go of a thrilling final 10-lap shootout to win his first All-Star event in 11 previous starts. It was the first victory since he left Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of last year, after two championships and 10 successful seasons, to become co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing.
In just six months, Smoke has turned his new toy into a championship contender. It was the first win for the organization, which was known as Haas CNC Racing for its first seven seasons.
The win at Lowe's Motor Speedway was in front of co-owner Gene Haas, who was at the track for the first time since the completion of a 16-month federal prison term for tax fraud.
"Man, he's not going to miss a week now," Stewart said. "He gets here and we win a race."
Stewart became the second driver/owner to win the All-Star race, joining Geoff Bodine, who won in 1994.
His crew urged him to the climb the fence in celebration -- a tradition he started several years ago -- but the driver who turns 38 next week declined.
His crew climbed for him.
Kenseth finished second and was followed by Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.
The format of the Sprint-sponsored event was once again changed, this time to cut the 100-lap race into four segments that culminated with a 10-lap sprint to the finish. It was a nod to races past, which had a history of dramatic dash-for-the-cash finishes.
It didn't disappoint.

I new it was only going to be a matter of short amount a time until Tony was HOT again. He rules when he's in control. He knows it and the rest of the field knows it. Watch out.

Congratulations to Tony Stewart and company. What a deserving win! It was just a matter of time as he has been consistently finishing in the top five this season. Too bad it wasn't a points race, but I am sure that 1 million dollar prize makes up for the lack in points advantage.
BTW: I actually liked the new All-Star Race format this year. I thought there was more excitement and the drivers were much more aggressive than previous years due to the short segments.

WEEK AFTER WEEK I BEEN WATCHING TS GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO A WIN and in the last 5-6 weeks so has his teammate RYAN FATMAN/OLDMAN (whatever).
Well i do not see any STEWART HATERS on this page
yet and that's a pleasant surprise.That a change
maybe. WHY because even with 5 championship under his belt and few dozines of victoryes everybody including me is now learning what STEWART can do on the track when he has total control of the team.
YES WE SEEN PLENTY AND 2 CHAMPS AT GIBBS BUT THAT WAS STILL PARTIAL TONY. NOW WE ARE WATCHING TOTAL TONY AT HIS BEST and honestly neither i an 11 year stewart fan did not expect the performance he has been showing exspecially in a HAAS RACKET that was bouded to the ash hips of history and success had to be started from scratch.COULD HIM DONE IT AT GIBBS? WHY NOT KYLE BUSH IS ON THE WAY there and soon so JOEY LOGANO.After all the GIBBS are only a step behind HMS if not even. SOMETHING WAS HOLDING
TS from his 100% performance and TOYOTA IS NOT THE BLAME because TOYOTA only showed up at GIBBS LAST YEAR.So what causing tony uplift? The choice to decide, the soddisfaction of ownership, the heart and mind he has been offering at his own team and CO.THE TOTAL QUEST OF SUCCESS AND PERFORMANCE FOR
STEWART-HAAS MS and not JGR/HMS/ GROUCHES- FINNFISH
or any other racket.
Works for me... does not, for the stewart hidden haters that will be out again at the next STEWART
RAGE AND FUMING SHOW. predicting INDYANAPOLIS WHEN THOSE GOODYEAR TRASH TIRES BEGIN TO BLOW EVERY 25 LAPS or close. hasta la vista audience.
