The NASCAR on FOX television crew tried to play it off as an accident, but Sprint Cup driver Robby Gordon was having none of it."I'm really looking forward to having a new driver in the [No.] 55 next year," said Gordon during his post-wreck interview, mad after Michael Waltrip bumped him into the Phoenix International Raceway turn three wall Saturday night in the Subway Fresh Fit 500.
No, Gordon doesn't have insider infomation about Waltrip's 2010 plans, but rather he was just citing comments that the driver/owner made at the beginning of the season.
During a preseason press conference, Waltrip noted that his personal performance in the No. 55 Toyota of his Michael Waltrip Racing entity had to improve significantly over what had been two straight seasons of mediocrity -- if that.
"My goal is to go win some races this year, run up front so that I don't have to say this is my last year. But if I don't do those things, if I can't compete at the level that Reutimann does or NAPA expects, then I probably won't get to do this again in 2010," said WaltripApparently Robby doesn't think such circumstances will occur Waltrip in 2009, though his comments came at a time when the driver of the No. 7 was a little biased.
The incident happened on lap 167 when Gordon headed into turn 3 with Waltrip inside and the other Gordon -- Jeff, the version with four more Sprint Cup titles than Robby -- trailing close behind. Waltrip lost grip heading into the corner, slid up the track and knocked Robby's ride into a spin. The No. 7 rear-ended the wall with Waltrip getting a piece of the action on his right-rear quarter panel.
Robby headed for the garage for repair [and returned to the race many laps down] while Waltrip hit pit road.
While in the garage, FOX Sports' Steve Byrnes grabbed an interview, leading off by referring to the crash as a 'victim of circumstance'.
"Yeah it's a bummer," Robby said. "I don't know, we probably should have come for tires there. We were running 18th. I don't know what Michael was doing there but he just ran us over."
"Can you get back in the race?" Byrnes asked.
"Yeah, but getting back in the race is one thing, but to lose this many points for the second weekend in a row -- its just devastation," said Gordon. "Our speedway car is really not that fast so i'm really concerned about that. But I'm really looking forward to have a new driver in the 55 next year."
And with that, the interview was complete, Michael Waltrip dissed and Robby Gordon's dismal streak of finishes continued.

Now if those comments weren't the funniest in a long time, then I don't know what would be! How ironic that the other worst driver in all of NASCAR (causes a wreck each and every week, usually all by himself), calling out the second worst driver and wrecker in all of NASCAR. They (Waltrip and Gordon) need to both hang it up! Robby just had someone else to blame this week. Who's to blame every other week when Robby crashes into the wall all by himself? LMAOF!

Waltrip is a buffoon, why NAPA keeps throwing money at this fraud is something only they can explain. The 00 team only proves how talentless "Mikey" is.

Wow, two old timers winning in a row, first Gordon, then Martin. Take that you young guns !!!! Congrats to Eury for giving Jr a top flight car again. Congrats to Mears for letting Jr know that it's not nice to spin another driver out due to a temper tantrum. It would be interesting to see Robbie Gordon trade rides with Waldrip. At least Robbie can drive while all Waldrip can do is run his mouth and rob NAPA of their money. I was wrong about Stewart's chances of winning this year. Apparently he's got his stuff together a lot sooner than I thought. Still can't figure out why he hired Newman though, must be a hoosier thing. Congrats to Hornish for proving that he is the real deal and can drive. Kyle Busch, while talented, still has some growing up to do. All in all, a pretty decent race. Works for me......

Robby may do all kinds of racing but he's no better than Waltrip in NASCAR. At least Waltrip can field a multi car team with sponsors. Most cautions involving Waltrip aren't caused by him. Robby runs into the wall, throws roll bar padding out of the window then denies it. Integrity? I'll take Waltrip anyday.

Indy racing? Shoot. Robby should stick to desert racing. At least then there are no walls to hit or bounce off of.

Robby is a whiner,he cant drive a stock car,so he should pack his bags and go back to something more his style like open wheel, and take that other loser with you,no not Mikey,as mikey has class when he screws up he admits it,not blameing someone else,You take that other loser juan pablo montoya with you back to indy cars,he is about as worthless as loose lugnuts ,he drives worse than Dale JR on pit road looking for his pit stall, and robby Gordon is about 10 times as bad with no class, crybaby ,is there a trend here ??Danica is a whiner,,crybaby,Robby is a whiner crybaby and so is Juan all from indy cars, they make the so called transition and move up to NASCAR and none of them can field a winning car,Because it takes talent ,skil and common sence and paientce,to drive a stock car 180 mph in traffic, with out wrecking the whole field, then pointing the finger at someone else and blameing them like robby does.Robby and jaun why dont you just pick your toy cars up and go play nice with the other little boys down there at indy,When you want to become a man again and have learned how to race with some integrity, come give NASCAR a try again.Waltrip has earned his respect over the years by winning Daytona how many times and not to mention many other Races you most likely have not even qualified for yet,NASCAR careers are like driving on a bumpy road, you hit some pot holes now and then and slow down ,and then you pick it back up,Mikey started a team from scratch ,with an unproven new sponsor Toyota,he was there first sponsored driver, now many people drive toyotasin NASCAR,NAPA stays with waltrip because they know he is developeing a winning team and that takes time and patience,i think Mikey is fielding his younger drivers with his better cars,as there careers are on the way up,and have a long way to go while he chooses to drive the worst cars he has every week, and knowing he only has a few years left of driveing he chooses to invest in his younger up and coming drivers, thats what Id do.in the long run after you have retired you will have 3 good drivers driving for you as you sit and watch.
