Note to all the No. 48 fans still drunk on three-peat (hey, I'd be too if my guy was the dominant force) -- hold off on the "Miller, you're out of your mind, Jimmie Johnson is 'da best, man!" quips until we get through this, alright?Because, really, Carl Edwards is the best driver in the entire racing world.
The best, that is, according to a panel "racing jurors" -- let's hope they stick to racing awards and aren't involved in the O.J. Simpson appeal because I have a feeling they'd complement Juice's white Ford Bronco driving abilities -- who named Columbia, Missouri's finest figure* the top wheel man in, like, all of the world this week.
Edwards received the award -- the TAG Heuer Racing Award -- during the opening of the Race of Champions in England this week after those judges "analyzed the weekly performance of more than 150 drivers from Formula One, GP2, NASCAR and the World Rally Championship."
From the best of my knowledge and lack of research into the matter, this is the first year this award was given out, but none of the jurors seem to have any major NASCAR ties -- making this accomplishment that much cooler for Cousin Carl.
So props to Carl and his fans because now they have something to cheer about despite losing to Johnson in the Chase like everyone else has in the past three years. Hey, you can't win 'em all, right?
*=Edwards get that nod because I don't know anyone else from Columbia, except Chase Daniels and Oklahoma kind of put him to shame a few weeks ago.

I'm guessing they were all drunk. They picked the idiot that ran into the wall, thinking it would be "just like" in the video game? The guy that took out all his teammates at Talladega? He's made more headlines this year for his temper and his stupidity. Not to mention the cheating, there was the suspension, the questionable fender pulling at California and the car that was skewed so badly his team had problems stearing it through tech...
When Nascar turned a blind eye to the skewed car, I stopped giving them the benefit of the doubt, that they were even attempting anything approaching fairness. After suspending the 24 and 48 cc's for fenders that fit the actually fit their template? They let the 99 car get away with the fender pulling and the skewed car, give me a break!

I don't know about "best driver in the world," but Cousin Carl is pretty darn good. He won the most races in the Nextel Series, and finished the points race in second place. Incidentally, he finished second in the Nationwide Series, too. The "chase" included 2 wins where he stretched his fuel mileage to slightly over 100 miles per tankful, but alas, also included 2 disasters--one when his dual ignition system failed and one when he wrecked not only himself, but two of his teammates. Johnson, on the other hand, had NO poor finishes during the last 10 races, and proved that NASCAR rewards consistency. Otherwise, the season would have ended up with Edwards, Busch (Kyle) and Johnson 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

I don't know if he is the best, but he is very, very good.,I would like to see him in a single seater, open wheel car; F1 or Indy car on a road course. When he first came up to Cup, I thought he was this sweet, nice guy; but he proved me wrong. He is one tough dude, cut in the Tony Stewart mold. As far as taking out his team mates, Paul Tracy made a career out of that! One thing that stands out about him... he is fearless .

You people seem to think that Cousin Carl was the only one that `bent` the rules. Have you forgotten the JGR fiasco? If so, what about Everham on the wheel hub on the 24, what about Knaus being SENT away from Daytona property? These guys all do whatever they think they can get away with. Here is a geometrical problem for you.... how can the 48 be garbage for 26 events, then come to life like he was on steroids? If you think it is based on his performance, I have some really nice property for sale.

No doubt Carl had a good year. BUT, if you look at career stats so far in Cup. JJ has him hands down. That's not an opinion. It's a FACT. Look it up if you doubt it.
