Carl Edwards is a witty guy. After causing a big wreck with 14 laps to go in last weekend's race at Talladega Superspeedway, Edwards took some heat from Kevin Harvick -- who told the NASCAR media that Edwards had no business racing up front after laying back the whole day.
Edwards wasn't too happy with Harvick, and apparently left a note that said "Kevin, Thanks for (expletive) me on TV - I was really trying to screw up everyone's day. Love, Carl." with Harvick's pilot after the Talladega race. We'll talk more about that in a moment.
In the meantime, things got more intense on Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway when Edwards approached Harvick in the Nationwide Series garage during practice. From ThatsRacin:
Witnesses said the incident started in the garage stall where Harvick's No. 33 Chevrolet was parked. Edwards had walked over from his area, two stalls down. The conversation appeared to start amicably, but soon heated words were exchanged, the witnesses said. The confrontation ended quickly after Edwards had been placed in a headlock (a headlock! Awesome!) by Harvick's hauler driver and then the two were separated.
At one point, Harvick appeared to turn away from Edwards, who then reached for Harvick's shoulder, as if to turn him back around. Harvick responded by shoving Edwards, who landed on the No. 33 Chevrolet, denting the right-front section of the hood.
NASCAR is not taking any action on the incident, and I can't really blame them.
Combined with that, uh, little bit of controversy from the finish of Sunday's race and NASCAR's getting tons of media coverage for some stories that NASCAR has sorely liked.
Heck, what's not to like about Thursday's altercation? It's the resurgence of a once-volatile Kevin Harvick, we're getting more of a look at how aggressive Mr. Nice Guy Carl Edwards can be, and we're also seeing how sincere Edwards writes letters.
If I'm Edwards, I'm putting the words "Love, Carl" on my back bumper because you know every announcer in the world will be using that line when he makes a pass for the next year.
Oh, and there's a race this weekend, too.

Yippee!!! GO Carl! I only hope to hear the "Love, Carl" over and over again. I am a Jeff Gordon fan all the way but I like Carl and the way he is standing up for himself.

That's why I like Carl Edwards. I stood up for himself during the post-race incident with Kyle Busch in Bristol. And then he made that kamikaze move at the last lap in Kansas City. And when he loses, he's always a good sport. He wasn't being all whining like a baby and admits when he did something wrong and felt remorse for it. Kevin Harvick is a douche, especially for saying that about Edwards. Staying in the back was part of his strategy, there was nothing wrong about that.

Good thing Kevin wasn't put in a headlock, it would only show he has no brains. Though there are many negative drivers, Kevin is one of the worst. As if Kevin has never caused a wreck! Question for Kevin, after Montoya bettered him last year, is he going to hide behind others and let them fight his battles. Media will make a big deal of this; they always say they need to start controversies! Since when?! Racing of all forms has always been controversial, drivers have always had fist fights, teams are now joining in (did you see the truck race a few weeks ago). But I think anyone who deliberately knocks someone else to the media is only showing what a low class person he is. Kevin beat up on the Bif a few years ago in the same series. What's the old saying "act your age, not your IQ." Or is that giving Kevin too much credit, does he even have an IQ. Nothing is ever Kevin's fault according to him and if he is such a sissy, he doesn't belong in racing. Carl is a class act; he admits his mistakes. but he is going to be on the losing end because his own teammates in both series would rather wreck him than let him win a race/championship or anything else. Naationwide fans will understand this since Kenseth wrecked Carl last year when he was racing for a championship and Matt didn't want him to pass him so he wrecked him. And after putting up with garbage from the 16 & 17, who are there own team, Carl gets upset after a bad time and makes a gesture and gets panned in the press. I just wished he had knocked Matt's block off. Carl always congratulates other winners of races, pays them compliments, and has taken the blame for problems even though he wasn't at fault at all - just because he is a nice guy. Since when is it a crime to be aggressive in racing; if you aren't you aren't much of a driver. Carl should be the "poster boy" for NASCAR because he is so much more personable than anyone in the garage area or on the track. But jealousy by the others only hurts them. And Strider is right: it was Carl's strategy, as it was for others who were in front and it has always been that way since this restrictor placeracing came into existence. Maybe if more people worked with Carl and weren't so self involved in promoting themselves by bad-mouthing to try to make themselves look better, there wouldn't be so many problems. Guess some people can't stand being a loser and feel it makes them a bigger person by their adverse actions. Kevin should stop whining and dry driving better. Personally, I've never liked Kevin and even if I wasn't already a Carl fan, I would be now after all the crap he has to put up with from some of the other drivers, especially since they are poor excuses for humans beings.

It's Talladega, baby! That's what happens there. The "big one" happens every time they race there. Everyone who knows anything about the track knows you are either running up front, or you run in the back until you can make a charge toward the front. No one wants to be in the middle as that's where the "big one" usually occurs.
I think the letter is funny. "Love, Carl," you've got to give it to Edwards that he at least has a sense of humor. As for Harvick, I like the guy, too. I understand why he was upset but like was discussed earlier in the week, at least Carl owned up to the mistake and apologized for it. Sounds like Harvick should lighten up on the guy just a little bit. The headlock thing is priceless. Would have loved to have seen that. Carl's not a small fella so this hauler guy must have been good sized. Now here come the idiots with even more comments about how NASCAR is no better then the WWF/WWE.

The part that the media sort of lost in it all - Kevin made those comments after having been wrecked out of Dega by someone else's mistake. (And it was a mistake, not a blown tire.) So someone is pissed after a wreck, says something hot headed, and Kevin's the one at fault? Aw, c'mon now!
I personally love all this. Headlocks! Carl-sized dents in cars! "Love, Carl"!!! And no punches were thrown! This is just too fun (and funny) to not love. I'm glad Kevin vented, I'm glad Carl apologized (because it was kind of blatant) and I love that Carl got all immature and had to write a note. It's awesomely funny. Especially since Kevin *didn't* start it for once.
(Sorry, but dudes, ever since the Matt Kenseth incident at Martinsville, I'm not willing to give Carl the benefit of the doubt. Especially since Kevin tried to walk away. Kevin. Harvick. Do you know what it takes for Kevin to walk away from something. He once tried to strangle Biffle!)

Any respect I had for Carl Edwards is out the window, (esp after the Kenseth incident).
I'm glad that there are drivers that go out there and race for the entire race, and not just sit back and wait for the last 20 to do something. Those drivers sitting back deserve to stay back there for the finish too. I don't pay money to see the races to watch my driver sit back and chill, I pay to see my driver run the race and try to get a good position for the most part of the race.
And I'm not surprised at all that when the drivers did start to move up in the field that one or more of them got into trouble. They haven't been in the three wide stuff all day, and suddenly they are trying to be in it, the cars are different in the pack, and on different days. If Carl had been up front for longer in the day, maybe he'd felt that condition earlier and may not have caused the wreck.
As far as the fight, I'm surprised that Harvick turned away from it. How many confrontations have we seen him back away from? But at the same time, when Edwards (who is a big guy) kept on, Harvick pushed the guy down. The Carl Edwards sized dent in the hood makes me laugh a little bit, and the headlock is priceless...

I am glad to see that it is Mr. Ed and Mr. Forehead doing something stupid instead of KB. Carl is a great actor on camera but a dirt ball off camera. To do what he did to Kenseth and now this. We do pay to watch these guys race and not lay back, maybe that happening will make them realize it doesn't work. As for Harvick complaining about getting wrecked, did he forget about Sonoma when he wrecked Stewart and a few others with a stupid aggressive move. They all make some mistakes and wreck others but that is racing and wanting to win, just amazing how soon they forget their own mistakes. Hope to see Edwards in the wall again, that is a good spot for him. KB#18 fan.

Maybe Carl will pass out cards saying "I'm sorry I don't know how to drive, just give me a chance man, I can do it!! then I'll do a handspring (haven't learned a burnout)!" Love Carl. To Kevin, be careful turning your back on Carl. He wrote love Carl? Scary, you may get something other than a knife in your backside.

I took Carl Edwards side on the Bristol/Kyle Busch incident because Kyle is too hyped up on NOS Energy drink/sugar rush from all that chocolate from the M&M's(although i wish he had an alergic reaction to peanuts, i'd love to see his head swell up to as big as he thinks he is), however i have the same feeling as some others do because of the Matt Kenseth incident last year. I think Carl plays mister goody too shoes on tv, but behind the camera he's a bully. He tried to take Dale Jr's hand off after a Busch race in Michigan a couple years ago and acted completely outrageous and childish in that incident, and of course the Matt Keneth deal where he rared up on Kenseth while Matt was doing an interview, and even though i dont like Kevin Harvick, im glad Kevin put him in his place and didnt back down like Matt did, which i still respect Kenseth, but someone needed to put Carl in his place and i hope he gets the message from Kevin. He was a complete idiot in drafting at Dega and it might have cost him and his teammate the championship for Roush, which is the only positive that came from that crash.

Right on 99fan. These people would've been whining a different tune if the wreck hadn't happened at Taladega. Hanging back is a normal strategy in all plate races, and on 1 1/2 mile tracks. How many times did we see Dale Jarrett win with this strategy over the years. Race strategy is race strategy! Wanna talk about bad race strategy?? Where was the 24 at the end of the race Saturday night?? It wasn't due to a malfunction in equipment or anything that happened on the track. It was due to obvious stupidity!!!

I agree with CJ (except for the peanut part but I think he was kidding anyway). :)
There are 2 more incidents with Carl that I think are unusual. Carl made the comment about Tony that there 'would be blood' on the track. He also turned Tony on pit row where innocent unprotected crew members could have been killed.
I don't believe this is a normal ticked off driver reaction. He seems to seethe over things for days and won't let them drop.

WOW,it usedto be DELILA HARVICK did the punching and showing for KEVIN. What happen? have he suddenly realized that he had testicles? i guess the harfrick was feeling chocked by the CARLIE monster palm around his neck, so he reacted
instinctely pushing haywards down. Than, i read about the headlock to the carlie; oh no, that has to be delana ju ping in to the fight. Wrong again: it was a harfrick crew member. So
cousin carlie , you loose exspecially when you retaliate with a 5th grade elementary school note passed under the desks.
GEEZ,ya all know i never liked grouche and his all racket but lately i was just beginning not to like but, appreciate and recognizing Haywards as a good driver and championship contender. Man forget about, the guy is just as distastfull and miserable as his brown/beige hated owner jackass grouch.
No senor, no me gusta el locos y grouches/finnfish.no senor.

Hey Susan!
I agree....something unsettling about Edwards indeed. I believe it's Steroids personally. Carl is probably a little unhappy about all this new drug testing stuff and is taking it out on anyone and everyone. Carl's one of the best physically built competetiors on the track. He is also one of the few that don't look winded after a hot race. I thought after the Kenseth incident that Carl was on Roids, so am still wondering.....I guess we'll know for sure when all the drug testing comes out next season, that or Carl will become the "Incredibly shrinking Carl" instead of "Cousin Carl," LOL.

You are going to have this type of behavior when you have so many trying to win. Its all part of the show. They are all pretty good friends when their not racing each other [the drivers] When you have this type of racing and so much at stake, you are going to get the road rage with it. I hate to see when they cause a big wreck and so many drivers get knocked out of the race. But it is racing , It is all part of the Show!

For those who wonder who carl haywards really is:
In my dreams i hear he is a distant cousin of jeffery dammer and he suffers of MPD disorder critical stage. On top of all he has, HADS= hyper adrenaline disorder system. H E EVEN ADVERTISES ON TV for the proper anti hads meds. Supposely be the right medication; apparently it's not working on him. At times i also hear he turnes into the zodiac serial killer or john wayne gasey, another serial. Could my dreams be wrong? who knows, it's a possibility.
