Carl Edwards Finishes Perfect MIS Weekend

For the first time since Mark Martin in 1993, a driver has completed the weekend sweep at Michigan International Speedway.

That driver was Roush Fenway Racing ace Carl Edwards who powered his way win number five of the 2008 season by winning Sunday's Sprint Cup Series 3M Performance 400, an encore performance to his victory Saturday during the Nationwide Series event.

The end of the 400-mile event was likely a foreshadow of what NASCAR fans can expect a few races from now when the Sprint Cup Series begins it's playoff-style Chase for the Championship as Edwards held off the most impressive driver of 2008 -- Kyle Busch -- on a restart with two laps to go.

Jimmie Johnson -- who lost to Busch on a late restart at Chicagoland in July -- would have been proud Edwards for pulling away from the No. 18 before Busch had a chance to get a run and take the 'W' away from Edwards.

Roush Fenway otherwise held a stranglehold on the Top 5 finishing positions with David Ragan scoring third, Greg Biffle fourth, and Matt Kenseth fifth.

The late restart came thanks to Denny Hamlin blowing a motor -- he wasn't happy -- in Turn 1. The caution set up a green-white-checkered finish though it came during the scheduled distance of the 200-lap race.

Prior to the restart, Edwards was warned over the radio by crew chief Bob Osborne of Busch's restart tactics with one suggestion -- just get away from the No. 18. And when the green flag flew at the start/finish line, Edwards was already in the throttle of his No. 99 and pulled away to five car-length lead by the time the field reached Turn 1.
