Remember this guy?
Jimmie Johnson -- word has it that he has won two Sprint Cup championships -- appears to be the new Kyle Busch in the NASCAR world.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver captured his second-career Allstate 400 at the Brickyard last week at Indianapolis, finished second three weeks ago at Chicagoland, and now he's on the pole for Sunday's Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.
In other words, he's starting to step up to the level of Busch, who has won seven times in 2008 in addition to two poles.
Johnson turned a lap at Pocono Friday afternoon of 168.215 mph to top his 2009 teammate and outside pole-sitter Mark Martin. Both drivers are getting pretty used to the view at the start of the race they started in the same positions at Indianapolis last weekend.
David Gilliland was the biggest surprise of the Top-5 on Friday after posting the third-best lap of the field with a time of 167.187 mph. Continuing his improved second-half of the season, Jeff Gordon starts fourth and Matt Kenseth starts fifth.
Kasey Kahne won the June event at Pocono and expects to be a favorite this weekend. He'll start seventh.
Chad Chaffin in the No. 34 car was the only driver not to make the field.

Bush only hopes he can ever be as good as Johnson! Kyle doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence with Jimmie.

How can you possibly compare Kyle to Jimmie Johlnson. Do you not pay attention. Jimmie is a two time Champion and respected by his piers, Kyle is nothing like him, and never will be. He can drive but has only looked good this year because everyone else was behind, Jimmie is back and he can teach Kyle a thing or two and he will. I cant believe you didnt do any research before you printed that article..Kyle could only hope to be as good or even close to Jimmie Johnson.

I think you've got it backwards...wait, not even backwards...you've got it wrong!
After 239 Cup Races, Jimmie Johnson has TWO Sprint Cup Championships, back to back, 35 wins 92 top 5's, and 144 top 10's. Ties Mark Martin for career wins...so far! He spent 105 weeks in the top 10 in points...6th on the all-time list.
After 134 Cup Races, Kyle Busch has 11 wins 42 top 5's, and 64 top 10's.
You've got to be kidding me when you say "Jimmie is stepping up to the level of Busch."
I'd have to say Kyle needs to work a LOT harder to try and think he's close to being like anyone. Just because he's had a good first half of ONE season, doesn't mean he's the next Dale Sr, or the next Jeff Gordon, or Jimmie Johnson, because he's not even close to their professionalism and stats.

Are you smokin crack? That is the dumbest thing I have read in a long long time.....goes to show you, that you don't know anything about Nascar.....anyone can win races, but it takes a MAN to be Champion....this is too funny to be serious...Go Jimmie!!!

I've always been a Kyle Busch defender but lately he is spending too much time with that pit lizard wannabe and not concentrating on his driving. JJ could very well be on top after this season because he wants it real bad. You see, that's what drives these people, they have to concentrate on driving 100% or better and back it up with a good car and driving skills.
Kyle needs to want that real bad too. He's on top right now and has the chance but he has to want it and nothing else. Distractions (I always wondered why groupies followed these adrenalin rush guys around, does anybody know)? off the tracks can have disasterous consequences and I'm speaking of major screwups.
I agree with the writer about those who should retire.
And finally, which brilliant Nascar moron decided to race the COT'S in the rain at Montreal? Another pathetic joke at the expense of the fans. Sure, they can't control the weather but July and August are big rain months for Montreal. Duh!
But we had the rain tires they lament. Yes, but the driver's couldn't see idiots and Nascar had to call the race at 54 laps.
I never thought I would see the day when a Nascar race car had windshield wipers which only worked half the time and the drivers had their own squeegies to clear their windshields!
Geez.

Jany, you're off as much as this Miller guy. The COT's will be racing in Pocono. There were of course no COT's in the Nationwide race at Montreal. FUnctioning windshield wipers are the responsibility of the team. I don't have sympathy for those that didn't bother and hoped handing their driver a squegee would do. Nascar might have tweaked the laps for standing water, but otherwise the race was fine.
As for Miller you can't mention a legend like Johnson in the same sentence as that flash in the pan Busch. Kyle's total wins are what 10 or 11? Johnson won 10 plus the championship just during 2007 alone. What crown jewel wins does Busch have? Does he even have any? Johnson won them all, plus a championship and the all star race all in 2006. Johnson has written his name all over the record books, and has wins on many different tracks, Busch... well I guess he must have the record for wearing ladies sunglasses from the 80's.

I dont think that Johnson is the ONLY guy that Busch better watch out for, any of those top guys could get on some runs and steal it away. Right now it's Johnson, earlier it was Edwards, and if he could getting the finishes that he starts out at in a race, he'll be just as big of a threat, and even Burton could be the Clint Bowyer of last years chase who people underestimated and was there within striking distance of the Hendrick guys last year. I think the media is so fickle and they just jump on the bandwagon each time. There are at least thirty other talented guys in the field week in and out, and yet Kyle and Jimmie is all they cant shut up about.

Thatb is exactly what i said in the other file about the crappy tires at indyanapolis CJ: the media jumps on the band wagon like a series of defferent origin parrots.......and so does many of the fans.
To the other 2 posters above, disagreeng about kyle and JIMMY,YOU BOTH ARE FORGETTING that the legend making for jimmy begun several years ago; KYLE'S legend making has just begun.
Both of them are terrific drivers but 2 completely defferent personalityes and driving styles, off and on the track.

Sure Johnson is a good driver, but lets give Kyle his due. After all, it was just a couple of weeks ago that Kyle outsmarted and outran Jimmy in a one on one duel. Truth be told, I think Jimmy has a better ride than Kyle overall. Kyle seems to make do and get the best out of whatever he's driving. On the other hand, unless Jimmy's car is pretty much dialed in perfectly, he hasn't shown me much. No doubt Kyle is going to have more competition now, as the crews have learned how to set up the COT, and the drivers have become more adept at driving a loose car. Until Jimmy shows he can produce the same results as Kyle in all three top divisions of Nascar, I'll have to go with Kyle as being the better driver. There now, all you Johnson lovers and Kyle haters as well as Emerson bashers will have something to work with. Hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Works for me......

I was just in shock at this article and really have nothing to add that has not already been said. It is a good thing Kimi is otherwise destracted with her family at this moment. She would have a fit for her boy JJ.

Chiding a driver is an easy thing to do and knowing it will piss someone off makes their day. "Emerson bashers?" lol. It goes like this Don. "You live by the sword you die by the sword." Remember?

Don are you kidding? I guess you don't follow racing much if you can't even spell the two time and reigning champ's name correctly. Kyle's the one who throws a fit if his car isn't dialed in. Did you see his interview after qualifying at Pocono?
Jimmie has no problem working on a car, and getting it dialed in. If it can't be fixed he keeps his temiper in check and methodically picks of cars one by one, as he works on his line.
Remember when Kyle was in the same equipment that Jimmie was in? Kyle didn't do to much.
As for Kyle's success in "the top three divisions" big deal. I'm not giving him credit for going down and batting in the minor leagues. And certainly no credit for all the wrecks he has caused in the truck series (there's those temper tantrums again). Jimmie doesn't erode the Nationwide or Truck series by running every race he simply picks a few races, and runs them, exactly as he should. I wish Busch and Harvick would have taken some notes from him.

Lacey, let me know when Jimmie wins another Nationwide race. Hmmm, his total so far in wins is........1,duh. I notice you didn't mention Jimmie getting snookered and BEAT by Kyle a couple of weeks ago. Your man could win 500 more races and still be the same ol' boring robot he's been all along. Go stand in the corner with all the Jr worshippers. And Ron, if your brain were 1/100 th size of your ego, you might have something intelligent to say. Live by the sword etc, geez....how original. Works for me......

Both drivers are excellent. The difference in this week has been the NASCAR directed change to the Toyota engine so it can't be all that it can be. Done by the good old American Way, "When you can't win by the present rules, change them". If you want parity in vehicles, follow the IROC rules and let NASCAR build them. France, Helton, and Pemberton have taken the inovation out of racing and by whose persuation.

Hey Don, congrats on your improved spelling. Notice in my last article when I said I wasn't giving Busch points for going down to bat in the minor leagues? It still stands. Jimmie got his job by impressing Gordon with his racing abilities in less than perfect equipment, while Busch drove all his Nationwide races in quality Hendrick and now Gibbs cars.
As for Kyle's win several weeks ago, big deal. Jimmie still has 35 career wins, 17th on the all time winners list, 2nd for active drivers. Busch is well.... waaaay down the list.
Your right Jimmie is a big robot, he wins races and championships and treats his crew guys right, surfs golf carts, and gives Robbie Gordon the double fisted salute in front of a full house at Bristol. Who'd want to root for a guy like that? He doesn't whine like Stewart and Busch, but he wins more too. Robot, its the sort of comment Stewart fans make when they're pissed off that Jimmie has more wins in fewer years. I guess you're ticked off because you're a Busch fan frustrated that he exhibits cross-dressing in his choice of sunglassses.

Lacey,
I agree with most of what you written, but why bring Harvick into the mix. You can't really put their situations on the same level, neither Busch or JJ own their own teams or foot the bill to pay for the equipment, personel etc. to be there.
Aloha, Brad
P.S. Hey Ron,,,,,Man I'll just bet those are some brutal marks Don left with those comments,,,,,,,sheeeesh Hope you survive. LMAO
