Thanks to Tony Stewart, the puzzle pieces of the 2009 season are starting to match together nicely.Ryan Newman won't have to worry about Alltel continuing to be the sponsor of the No. 12 Penske Dodge after 2008 because he won't even be with the Penske operation anymore, potentially opening the door for Newman to join Tony Stewart at Stewart-Haas Racing, otherwise known as the "Indiana Dream Team".
Newman, who hails from South Bend, Ind., leaves Penske Racing at an interesting time. Though 2008 was he final year of his current contract with the team, most wouldn't have expected Newman to be leaving the only team he's ever driven for in stock car racing. A win at the Daytona 500 in February further emphasized that thought.
But Newman has been frustrated with the performance of the team, both this year and for last few years. Currently, Newman sits 16th in the point standings, and it appears he could be on the outside looking in for the Chase yet again. He hasn't been a participant since 2005.
In 2003, Newman's career looked to be taking off like a rocket. He won eight races of his 13 career wins that season. He followed it up with two more in 2004, one in 2005, and then didn't win again until February at Daytona. In that time, the Penske operation had fallen off from being at the top of the NASCAR game, and it took a toll on a Newman, leading him to where we are today.
A big factor in Newman's decision also had to be the exit of Don Miller at team president in the offseason, as well as the departure of Matt Borland as crew chief a few years back -- both of whom were very close to the driver.
Sunday at Chicagoland, Newman said he has four options for 2009, and that at least one has included talks about partial ownership. My guess, just like the rest of the world, though, is that next week at Indianapolis will be a special one for Newman and fellow Indiana-native Stewart.
Stewart-Haas-Newman Racing? I doubt it. But Stewart-Haas featuring Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman? Sounds like a dynamic duo.
A dynamic Hoosier duo.

I think Ryan would be a great teammate. He has to be one of the best qualifiers in Nascar. That would help with the points situation.
I read that Martin Truex might be in a 3rd car.
I think all 3 of those drivers have a lot in common.

I have to say, i dont blame Newman for leaving Penske and even knew it would happen, even after Newman lucked out and won the Daytona 500, but i think Stewart-Haas is not the best option, but i could be wrong. I think it was a great business move for Stewart, but as far as career move, it will put a dent in his wins and championships, if he ever gets another one. If Stewart wants a winning championship, then he'll need to soon start on his own engine program. Depending on other organizations, such as Hendrick, is a mistake and anyone is a full to think that Hendrick would give stuff to other teams that'll be his own, i know i wouldnt and if you look at the teams out there now using other organizations engines such as Yates, Hall of Fame, and Petty Enterprises, they all use other organization engines and all of those are struggling this year and not winning races. Im also suprised that Stewart is also working on Truex Jr for a possible third team, and i thought he might be an option for a second, but i'd be shocked if they did a third, but it also reminds me of Mikey Waltrip Racing and him going to three teams when he originally had only planned on starting two, but UPS suprised him in coming along with Dale Jarrett, which ironically may be helping Stewart go to three teams. As far as Childress and Penske, the leftovers are slim picking. I think if Newman and Truex Jr is off the market, the top two in my opinon that are left is Sorenson, and if a team could land him, Jamie McMurray. I think Sorenson at the 4th RCR car would be a good fit, and if Penske could get him, McMurray would be a good land at Penske. I could see Roush sending his fifth car to Yates and right now with the rumors of Menard buying into Yates, Paul Menard could drive the third Yates car absorbed from Roush. As far as Mears and Stremme, possibly DEI or Ganassi could be in their futures, although both have burnt bridges with Ganassi, so i'd be suprised if either were reluctant to go back. I could see Stremme going back before Mears to Ganassi, but i think if Sorenson is gone, i think Francitti would get Sorenson's ride. Im fairly certain it'll be Logano replacing Stewart in the Home Depot ride. I hear also GEM may be taking a look at other drivers also possibly for the 10 car which is understandable, and im sure their wiling to sideline Carpentier because they are doing so in a few weeks to run him in the Montreal and pulled him out of the Pocono Cup race. Also, rumored as well is Petty Enterprises, as Reutimann's name was thrown around a week ago to replace Kyle Petty, and heresay was thrown out that Newman was contacted by Petty Enterprises so with their influx of cash from their merge/sellout, maybe they are trying to lure some drivers, but again, Petty would also be a bad option and ought to thank God they were able to land Bobby and keep him, but they will end up ruining their career.

I think Tony is cutting his own throat, but I guess time will tell. As for bringing Newman on board, I have my doubts about that move too. Let's face it, this is a bad time to be starting up a new racing team economically. Until Nascar gets it's "stuff" together, and the economy picks up, I think I'd just sit tight and wait until the outlook is brighter before taking the plunge. Works for me.....

T HAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I FEAR ABOUT TONY, EMERSON
and not only that; it might take him ages to prop the teams in the constant top 5's finishes and wins, considering how deteriorated HAAS teams are.
