Erik Darnell won Saturday afternoon's Craftsman Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway -- but by less than a bumper.
Michigan-native Johnny Benson got a run on the inside of Darnell coming to the checkered flag, but Darnell was able to drive back by Benson at the line to grab the win by 1/1000 of a second. NASCAR officials couldn't immediately declare a winner, but after checking the photo finish camera, Darnell was declared the victor.
It was Darnell's second career win.
The final restart with four laps to go left just enough time for things to get really interesting throughout the field. Not only did Darnell and Benson come across the checkers side-by-side, but the battle for third place between Scott Speed, Todd Bodine and Brendon Gaughn. Speed took the spot.
Watch below starting from the restart with four laps to go as the closest finish in Truck history unfolds:

I think this kid has alot of talent and should've been in place to replace Mark Martin in the 6 car, not David Ragan. I do think eventually he'll be in Cup and i think he'll replace Matt Kenseth after his contract expires after next season. I see Matt Kenseth heading out of Roush, cause Jack has made it apparent that he's not giving Robbie Reiser back to be Matt's crew chief anytime soon. If Hendrick decides to honor Mears contract to the fullest, which expires after the 2009 season, then i could see Kenseth landing the 5 car and it'd be sweet to see buddies Matt and Dale Jr on the same team, i think they'd work great together, however, i think Mears will be out of a ride after this year is up. I could also see Matt teaming up with his old teammate Jeff Burton at RCR starting in 2010. He could be in that fourth RCR car(depending on who Childresss gets and if they are sorry and cant get it into the top 35, then he might hire Kenseth and use his provisional championship to guarantee it in), but also Clint Bowyer and Kevin Harvick's contract's also expire at the end of 2009, and ive heard Bowyer's name rumored around for that 5 car also. So in summary after 2009 season:
17 car-Eric Darnell
07, 5, or 29 car-Matt Kenseth
Also, i dont think Roush will get rid of any of his cars after 2009, i think he'll end up moving one to Yates Racing.

GREAT to see Erik Rocking the Track! It's been along time coming for him to get the attention he deserves! Also.. GREAT NEWS on his engagement to Amber and the upcoming Baby! Keep Illinois on the racing series and lets hope the new "junior driver" is a cart racer!

Defenetely the closest race finish i ever seen and thanks god there is tecnology out there to decide who the winner was cause it's virtually impossible for our naked eyes to select the winner. This finish was much closer than the one between RON
HORNEY AT DAY and MIKE SKIPPER several weeks ago.
Much closer than HARFRICK and MMartin daytona finish in
FEB 07. OOPS the driver spelling is screwed up. works for me...
