Jeff Gordon said it best last week when he said Jimmie Johnson "has flat killed everyone" in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.That didn't change Sunday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Jimmie Johnson finished seventh in the Ford 400 to wrap up his second NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship in a row by 77 points over Hendrick Motorsports teammate and co-team owner, Jeff Gordon. Johnson is the first Cup series repeat champion since Gordon did it in 1997-98.
Johnson, who was going for his 5th win in a row, led only the first lap of the race after starting from the pole and was a steady Top-10 fixture for the rest of the race. Gordon managed to earn 9 points in the final tally on Johnson by finishing fourth, but it wouldn't be enough for the four-time champion who also had a season to remember by recording his 30th Top-10 of the season, a new NASCAR record.
Oh Yeah, Matt Kenseth Won, Too
Also celebrating Sunday night at Homestead was the Roush-Fenway Racing team after Matt Kenseth won his second race of the year.
The win was especially nice for departing No. 17 crew chief Robbie Reiser. Reiser will assume the position of general manager for Roush-Fenway starting Monday morning after working with Kenseth since his entry into the ranks of NASCAR in the late 1990s.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. wrecked early and Tony Stewart late to end a crazy year for the Nextel Cup Series that saw plenty of transition and plenty of things pushed to the limits.

I tell you what i find funny is that NO other manufacturer has anything for Chevy in any of the top three series. In the Craftsman Truck series, Skinner was tough in his Toyota, but it was the Bowtie in the Kevin Harvick Inc (with RCR power) and Hornaday end up on top winning the championship. As far as Busch, yea, Carl Edwards and his stupid blue oval won the driver's championship, but the #29 Holiday Bowtie with Scott Wimmer and Jeff Burton won the owner's title which means the Chevy car beat the #60 Ford in the end and again credited to RCR horsepower and even Carl said that the championship wouldnt mean much if they didnt win the owner's championship. And then today, the #48 Lowe's Chevy with Jimmie Johnson with Hendrick Horsepower won it, so is anyone goin to catch the Bowtie? I HIGHLY DOUBT IT! And Toyota got Gibb's Chevy, SO WHAT! Their Chevy teams didnt win any of those championships, they stupidly let two of their very good developmental drivers in Aric Amirola and Brad Coleman go(Yeley sucked so that was a smart move), and now have two of the whinest biggest babies in the sport by the name of Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch and none of their cars finished in the top five this year and only one, Tony Stewart, in the top ten so they were the third worst team of the Chevy groups so they can have them! Congrats to Chevy teams of the #29 Holiday Inn Chevy Monte Carlo SS, #33 Camping World Chevy Silverado, and the #48 Chevy Impala SS! Like a Rock, no other manufacturer can touch the Bowtie!
Kyle Busch might be a crybaby, but I think he will grow up. Kyle Busch is one heck of a driver and can drive anything. I bet Hendricks will regret losing Kyle Busch to give a bigger crybaby....Dale Jr. a ride next year. Richard Petty said said Busch has more talent than anyone since the late great Tim Richmond. We will see next season if anyone still go to the races or watch them on television. NASCAR has ruined the sports and it shows with track attendance and television ratings at a all time low.
