ABC's broadcast of last Sunday's Pep Boys Auto 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway earned a final Nielsen Media Research rating of 4.0 ...20%?! Can't blame that one on
20 percent lower than the 4.8 NBC earned for the same race in 2006.
So ... what do you want to blame it on?

Nascar is becomming to commercialized, it's all about the money. Nascar plays favorites, that's for sure. The last few races they only showed crashes or anything else that involved Jeffy or Jimmy only. Everyone is tired of the Jeffy and Jimmy show, even chevy lovers!!!
Nascar seems to punish teams when they do real good to allow the teams doing bad to get a better advantage. It seems kind of strange when Chevrolet ran away with it last year and can not get a win yet this year. And toyota that could not win is now wining. There is something that smells out there. Nascar is beginning to stink real bad, thats why the fans are not there like before.
NASCAR has standardized the cars and now they're "standardizing" the drivers. Any driver with a little bit of personality and passion gets dragged to the NASCAR hauler. They should try calling it "THE STEPFORD CUP SERIES".
It used to be the National Association of STOCK CAR Auto Racing. The cars should fit stock body contours and should use modern day engines with fuel injection, hemi heads, over head cams, etc. Like actual "STOCK CARS". There is nothing left for those of us who appreciate the Ford vs. Chevy vs. Mopar attraction. The "sameness" is turning me off.
They put the races on many different networks and on cable. That's all it is. The same thing has happened to every sport.
If people watched Nascar they would see what a good sport it was yes I said sport. Its even better then watching a bunch of guys throwing a ball around at least this has cars and speed in it. The thrill Nascar has its out of this world every week watching the guys hitting each other with their cars for the win it has me off my feet. GO JEFF GORDON 24!!!!!!!!!!!!

Driving around in circles for over 3 hours is boring and all of the cautions make the first 450 miles (3 hours) of the race irrelevant. Having more road races might help, but this is a fad which is fading.
It's become a high speed parade in which pitting strategy (guessing?) dictates the outcome of the race, not driving ability. The contrived close finishes are a turnoff. Let a really superior car/driver lap the field!
I think it might have something to do with the network that the it is on beinning of saeson was on regular tv middle on cable now the end of season is on regular tv. Not everyone has cable.
In the present days of multimillion dollar cars Nascar is no longer within the reach of average people. Give me a race where the first one to the finish line wins and I don't have to waste all day every sunday sitting through concessions for blown tires yellow flags because some idiot touched another car thus causing too much delay. The type of racing I watch does not Let some brainless jealous idiot intentionally make contact with any one without getting the black flag. You have taken the true competition out of racing by favoring the spoiled rich guys over true competition. I say lets incorporate all of the competitors into the race instead of just the rich boys who almost always are the top finishers. How about the guy that builds a good car and drives a Fair race a chance. Save the $00 & 500 milers for special events rather than shoving them down our throats every week for the dreadfully long season. If you are seeing a drop in popularity'does it really surprise you? Same old stuff week after week.
I QUIT WATCHING IT. ITS NOT COMPETITIVE ANYMORE, WHOEVER HAS THE MOST MONEY WINS THE RACES MOST OF THE TIME. I'M TIRED OF THE JEFF AND JIMMY SHOW.
NASCAR plays favorites and don't dish out equal penalty for equal offences. Also, don't like the way they do the chase. Feel the old way was better where all are in the chase until the very end. Nobody is running in the chase that I really care to see win. Some I hope don't win like the Busch brothers. NASCAR can do all they can to sell those two but people are not buying they are still spoiled brats and charm school did nothing for them.
you cant do anything to the cars to make your car better you may as well run them off an assemable line and give them to the drivers on race day
For the Jeff and Jimmy bashers. It isn't all about being the rich guys, because all of the drivers are rich or they wouldn't be there. First of all the The Chase needs to go. We don't need 2 seasons a year. A lot of young drivers wouldn't be driving the way they do, if Dale Sr was still around. Nascar has ruined what used to be a great sport. I love racing, but it is going downhill fast, just like the rest of the sports. Money isn't everything. I think the love for sport has gone. They are in it for the money only.

The poll should have been "pick all that apply" Letting Toyota in sucks, Rusty sucks, Brad and Suzy suck, Nascar on ESPN on ABC sucks, COT sucks, Nascar going all wine and cheesy sucks. I quit watching years ago when they stopped running real cars, but I gradually came back. Now, I'm done with 'em again!
I love NASCAR. but the commentators on EPSN on ABC are too stupid for words or they think we're all too stupid for words. They constantly harp on the totally obvious, make wrong calls and try to sensationalize everything as in saygin "He could win this thing" about just about every car in the race. Bring back the commentators who don't talk down to us.
The same thing that is destroying baseball is destroying Nascar. Just one or two teams have a real chance at a championship each year, the drivers are not loyal or their teams and vice versa. I was a big Dale Jarrett fan but I am loyal to Ford. Thus when Jarrett switched to Toyota, I no longer care to follow him. Jarrett should've sticked to what got him to the big time. The new generation of fan is being lost to other more exciting things and the old generation is lost from all of the changing of teams.
