I really do appreciate this new article, especially since I "publically ridiculed" you for writing about the story originally. I do apologize and hope you accept my apologies? :-)

I too did hear that the staffers were in fact offered the vaccinations due to the various health care facilities they were going to visit on their trip. This is not so unusual as my husband has an RN license and is an Ex-Marine, and he's been immunized against everything under the sun. The guy never even gets a cold. Drives me crazy.

Anyway, I agree with you. You are not crazy for feeling a sense of "dread" at any mass event, especially a large sporting event. I mean it's scary to think it, but true. What better place to have a large amount of confined people you could attack at one time and have success with other than at a major sporting event? I guess we have to hope that some of these idiots at Homeland Security are truly looking out for us. We have to remember to live each day to the fullest and not dread about the would haves, could haves, etc. Just enjoy!

Thanks for the post TGOM! I'm sure there will be people coming in later to bash and make it go crazy anyway (from either side), but this is the real concern: whether people at sporting events are adequately protected in case of attack. Heck, I'd just like to know what the various track owners would do in case there needed to be an evacuation.

I understand the attack on sporting events, but why was it he picked this sport? Why hasnt he said this about a Basketball game or a New Orleans Saints football game? He says it about a Nascar race, that's a bit ironic! This Bennie Thompson is nothing more than a liberal bastard who is a racist who's playing the tune of the white man trying to put him and his people down, and frankly i get sick of it! He may say that he would say the same about Superbowl events or whatever other sports, but he singled out a Nascar race and because of what is a misperceived notion by most blacks(lead by no other than Spike Lee) as a white racist sport and that's the fartherest from the truth. They need to educate themselves before they open their largeass mouths and speak, but many racist blacks such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are too busy filling their heads with more black racist ideas of the white man out to get them. Bennie Thompson is just another liberal trying to follow in their footsteps and make himself out to be a hero among his people, when in fact he is nothing more than the common jackass politican such as Obama and Hillary!

I don't know if your closing remark was such a good idea. I can picture some terrorist reading this, and saying to his comrade, "hmmmmm forget the super bowl Abdulla, let's head on down to Daytona." The press doesn't need to be a suggestion box for the addled, insane, and misguided. The best Homeland Security you could ask for is a president who's willing to listen and negociate, rather than one who'd rather ignore and exterminate. Works for me....

I had to laugh when I read this news article in my local paper a few days ago. Anyone who's ever been to a NASCAR event knows what germ laden events they can become. The best advice I would give anyone going to these events is to NEVER wear sandals. The parking lots become open sewers for anyone with a penis, despite the fact that you can't walk ten feet to find a port-a-pottie. I think the mantra of many of their fans is, "I got a peepee, the world is my urinal!" Totally disgusting - after attending one NASCAR race, one Indy Race, and one Funny Car race I'd have to say the majority of the fans think a parking lot is just one giant urinal!!! Viewing these events via television is definitely a healthier choice!

And about NASCAR? Well..it probably is the most racist of sports. The crowd includes more confederate-flag wavers than any other sport (heck, even more than LSU football, and that's saying something!), and as writers have proven, the drivers say nothing about it for fear of "rocking the boat." So yeah..I don't put Daytona high on the list of places my white girlfriend and I would have have a stress-free time.

And also - we'd take you more seriously if you removed "fartherer" from your vocabulary. I mean, really. Really!

Suggesting that the immunization request was for the purpose of defense against a terrorist biological attack is ridiculous. Saying that is just an attempt to cover the true opinions of some about the NASCAR fans.

The memo stated: "unusual need for whomever attending to be vaccinated against hepatitis A and B," as well as "the more normal things _ tetanus, diphtheria, and of course, seasonal influenza."

For Bernie Thompson to claim otherwise makes him less then honest.

NASCAR's the most racist? Eh, I have to give that to golf, since it took someone with Tiger Woods' talent to get minorities the chance to play in the majors. (That and they still refuse to let women play at the Masters. Racism and sexism at its best.) People just don't call them on it because Tiger "fixed" the most obvious problems.

They didn't actually "just" pick NASCAR. That guy from Mississippi has indicated it's something they're concerned about for all sporting events. It's just that NASCAR is a bit more obvious than most, because other outlets have tried to make NASCAR the brunt of something negative (like when Dateline NBC was on the witch hunt about racism at sporting events and started with NASCAR).

That being said, I can't believe I am going to say this, especially since I am still a tad pissed at you for your comments on the other board, but oh well, I agree with you. Whether democrat or republican, this country needs a President with charisma, intelligence, and strong negotiation skills. We don't need another war hungry President, but one that knows and understands the importance of diplomacy. I am unsure yet if there is such a qualified candidate, but I sure hope we find him/her before 2008!

While I appreciate your views, I have to disagree with a few. And please don't see it as a personal attack on you, because it is not meant to be, truly!

Diplomacy is the best tool a President could have, period. You can say all you want about Clinton, but the man was extremely respected all around the world by many other peoples and leaders of other countries. Why do you think that when things started going to "shit" with Bush, he hired Clinton to go around the world and "smooth" things over? That's a fact, by the way.

And second, of course you can't negotiate with terrorists, but you sure as hell can try to nogotiate with the leaders of the countries that harbor them. They don't want the terrorists there anymore than we do. It also boils down to money and what we can profit from another country. Let me use the numerous countries in Africa who are attacked, raped, and killed by their own governments on a daily basis, wiping out thousands of people a day. That's true genocide. Yet we do nothing! Why you ask? Because they have no natural resources to give us, so no money! Money talks, our government & others walk!

If we are truly going to "fight the war on terrorism" then we have to fight all over the world for everyone! That's obviously not "do-able," so that's where diplomacy comes in. Has nothing to do with being a democrat or a republican, just has to do with being smart, period!

This of course is just my opinion! :-)

Although,,,,, it's very hard to think of the needless death of many innocent people.

Negotiation and diplomacy might help in the short run, but I would like to get the first true Americans view on where negotiations will get ya...That being the American Indians.
