One-fourth of the Chase for the Nextel Cup population had a good day (and night!) at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. The remaining three-fourths would have gladly taken Dorothy's trip to Oz instead of their 210 travels around the 1.5 mile circuit Sunday.
The disparity was pretty clean cut as Jimmie Johnson left with the point lead and Denny Hamlin left with a 248 point deficit in twelfth.
In between, Jeff Gordon again averted disaster by missing wrecks -- again -- and used an impressive drive in the last 30 laps to take to a fifth-place finish. Clint Bowyer now sits third in the standings after
Tony Stewart was a hothead after cutting a tire and then getting booted by Kurt Busch while trying to find pit road. That incident collected Carl Edwards, leaving him with his 2nd DNF in as many days at Kansas. Busch ended with a decent day in 11th that should have been oh-so-much better with the way his car handled before the second rain delay.
Kevin Harvick followed the same path as Busch and wound up sixth.
Others walking away disappointed from the crazy race included Matt Kenseth, Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch who all got the wrong end of crashes.
Ryan Newman blew an engine and Jeff Burton had problems with the fuel pump.
The result? The Chase finally has some elevation change between its top and bottom teams, and its probably safe to say that Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and Jeff Burton might find themselves and the point lead too far apart between now and Homestead.
With that said, and with seven races left to decide one champion, the recipe is setting up nice. Even with the

It ended up being a pretty good race considering most kansas races are boring. I can t believe how things turned completly around after the last rain delay and can t believe how CHILDISH tony stewart acts sometimes, he looked like a little kid throwing a fit when he wrecked, i really think he has some type of mental problem.

It is just too bad Tony will not talk to ABC/ESPN. I would love to see who he blamed for this wreck. As I did not see the race due to my personal boycott, I am only going by what I have read but it seems like he was in an earlier fender bender and they did not fix the damage. So, as a result, his tire blew and he caused another wreck. I am sure it was anyones fault but his. Since he will not talk to ABC I guess we will never know whose.
Sorry, Kim, I am not a big fan of the 20 car.

Hi Mike!
Why are you apologizing to me? I can't stand Tony Stewart! I only enjoy watching him make a total ass out of himself. It makes me laugh.
It was Kurt Busch who nailed him from behind, but the wreck was Tony's fault and poor Edwards just got caught up in it with nowhere to hide. I felt bad for Edwards. Tony was cutting a tire, had been for many laps. He & his team refused to pit and everyone else could see the tire going. When the tire finally went, sparks flew and all, Tony slowed down, Kurt was coming fast, tried to slow up, but couldn't and nailed him from behind. Then afterwards, Tony threw one of his famous cry baby fits. I was literally laughing my butt off at work today when I saw the replay of how mad he was. He looked like my nine year old son when he doesn't get his way, throwing things and yelling at people to get away from him. LOL.

TONY STEWAET IS MY NUMBER ONE DRIVER.SIMPLY THE BEST.
SIMPLY THE TOP GUN OF NASCAR.
NEVERTHELESS, I HAVE TO GO ALONG THIS TIME WITH THE ANTISTEWART FANS.
HE SHOULD STOPPED and change the damaged tire, and not listen to GREG (WINE) ZINFANDEL wheech told him
over the radio:the rubbing was not so bad and there was no need to pit. Poor judgement from the crew chief, but ones again i hold both irresponsible. TONY IS NOT A ROOKIE.HE SHOULD STOPPED ANYWAY.
