Everyone has a different complaint about ESPN on ABC's coverage of NASCAR, so this one's going to be a bit of a free-for-all. What's your beef?
Is it the way they miss the restarts because they haven't learned what the different colored racing flags mean yet? Let's help them out.
Green means go. When the green flag is waving, the camera should be focused on it and that camera's feed should be transmitted live to the viewers' televisions. Not just some of the times. Every time. No exceptions. The drivers manage to be on the gas when the green flag drops every time. They certainly don't join the restart "in progress." ESPN gets the same head's up. Why should they have such difficulty heeding the "one-to-go" warning?
And how about their on-air talent? Do you just want Rusty Wallace to can it, or what? I cannot be the only one bugged by his uncanny ability to know what is going through every driver's mind at any given moment on the track. Or maybe it's his mastery of the obvious that rubs me the wrong way, like yesterday when Dale Earnhardt Jr. passed teammate Martin Truex Jr. and Rusty said something like "It just goes to show ya how much Junior wants to win this race." How profound. Imagine that ...a driver wanting to win a race.
Don't even get me started on the "fans' reporter," Brad Daugherty, or the obligatory female presence of Suzie Kolber.
If you'd asked me last season, I would have argued there was no way ESPN/ABC could be worse than NBC, but ESPN and their talking heads are certainly giving the peacock a run for the money.
Give me FOX, more Speed on FOX and Krista Voda! Boogity, boogity, boogity, boys (and girls), give us some good coverage!

ESPN spends more time on commercials then broadcasting the NASCAR race. Any accident they are on a commercial break. They need to change their name to:
Excessively Stupid Promotional Network (ESPN)
Definitely not sports.

I don't even know where to start, b/c everything about ESPN's coverage is annoying. Go to wikipedia and look up NASCAR on ESPN--I can only laugh at how pitiful they look even from a NPOV. And who else got tired of the same diagram of a dropped valve every week. Plus, every time someone said something, they'd tell us to go to espn.com and search keyword "keyword." The only thing I liked was the Draft Tracking, but of course ESPN screwed that up by showing the same thing over and over. Give me DW, Larry Mac, and Mike Joy in the Fox booth any day and twice on Sunday (which happens to be race day!!!).

ABC should still stand for "Almighty Broadcasting of Commercials", especially during all types of auto racing by both ABC and ESPN!! This is ridiculous!!

How about adding one more crawl at the top or the bottom of the screen. There are occasions when they are actually showing the race that you can still see it. I figure another crawl would block it out entirely and then it won't matter that the coverage stinks. Rusty needs to go. I don't need a psychic to keep me informed about the obvious.

NASCAR, please just give the whole season's TV contract to FOX. Even CBS...I think I remember that they weren't too bad. But seriously, the peacock network and the stupid disney channels are making you look like morons.

I AGREE. RUSTY SUCKS AT THIS JOB AND THEY SHOULD REPLACE HIM WITH DJ IF HE'LL EVER RETIRE. BUT I WOULD MUCH RATHER HEAR DW-BOOGITY BOOGITY BOOGITY AND LARRY MAC AND MIKE JOY. I THINK THEY BRING A WHOLE LOT OF KNOWLEDGE TO THE BROADCAST AND MAKE IT MORE FUN FOR THE FANS TO WATCH AND THE WHOLE FOX TEAM DOES A GREAT JOB COVERING THE RACE.

At least with NBC, you could mute the announcers and turn on MRN radio. But with "ESPN on ABC", you can't even salvage that much of a good race watching experience between almost constant NFL updates and other nonsense while the race is still going.

My husband and I were saying the same thing as we watched the race yesterday.
They have one of the better announcers on pit road,
Alan Bestwick. Put him in the booth.

You don't see any mention of racing action on any other sports' broadcasts. Why do they do that during a NASCAR race (and even during an NHRA event). Fox and Speed does an awesome job of broadcasting and the announcers are informative, fun and know what they are talking about. I think they have "dumbed down" the broadcasts for "newbies" but the people who are real race fans get bored with all the nonsense talking.

About the only thing (the one and only thing) that ESPN/ABC has done that's cool and different is the restart spotter chatter. But that's it. (And partially it's cool because it shuts Rusty up.)
I admit to liking Brad Daugherty, but that's because he admits to not knowing things, whereas the others are happy to be idiots.
Quite frankly, someone needs to find a way to fire that group and bring in John Roberts, Steve Byrnes, Dave Despain, or any guy from MRN to be the talking heads. Those guys have a clue AND don't pander to the random person flipping channels who hasn't a clue what's going on.

I agree with Sharla, Put Alan in the booth,. I have lots of respect for Rusty, be hes no announcer, hate all of them. I listen to my driver on trackpass and tune into MRN and mute the TV. I dont think ABC has shown a green flag restart all season. Love the Fox and Speed guys, NASCAR just them broadcast it all season.

I had high hopes for espn being that thier coverage of other sports is immpressive. On the nascar front they dropped the ball. Rusty just dosent have the personality, Brad is a prior team owner who's insight leaves much to be desired, an the chick is the equivilent of a bobble head doll repeating everything she hears. Bottom line, its awful. I hope nascar is getting a big enough check to put its die hard fans through a 4 hour race with horrible camera work and i swear if i see one more update of another sport, you dont see them cutting into a football game to show race highlights. espn sucks at nascar, let them stick to what they know best, cheesy highlight gags, and score rundowns..

Why don't you show more of the race leader's and less of Junior running in 32nd place two laps down, you would think that Junior is the only person who can drive a race car, listing to the BS announcer's on tv.
