Now that we've got all of the -- um -- important details out the way, the focus of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s voyage to Hendrick Motorsports has reached a point that matters. The competitive side. You know -- the side that Dale Earnhardt Jr. actually left Dale Earnhardt Inc. in favor of Hendrick for in the first place?
First off, Earnhardt's current and future crew chief at Hendrick Tony Eury Jr. will be released from his duties at DEI. following the Oct. 7 race at Talladega Superspeedway.
Eury, who has been Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s car or crew chief for all but one season since the two broke into the Nextel Cup Series in 2000, will step down after the Oct. 7 race at Talladega Superspeedway.According to the article, only one team member has told DEI that they will departing with Eury Jr.
He will be allowed to take four members of Earnhardt's No. 8 team with him under a deal made by DEI when it agreed to free him contractually to join Earnhardt at HMS in 2008.
The jump for Eury Jr. will work out nicely as he'll not only get a head start at Hendrick, but Earnhardt Jr. may be in a Hendrick ride following the last October race in Atlanta.
NASCAR has scheduled a Car of Tomorrow test at the track for the following Monday:
The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday that Rick Hendrick is considering asking car owners involved in the forthcoming driver changes to agree to a plan that would let Earnhardt Jr. test in a Hendrick car of tomorrow at Atlanta Motor Speedway next month. While the deal does sound pretty fair all around, it seems there might be too many eggs in the basket for it to completely work right.
The idea would be for Earnhardt Jr. to test for Hendrick, Kyle Busch to test for Joe Gibbs Racing, J.J. Yeley to test for Hall of Fame Racing and Regan Smith to test in the Dale Earnhardt Jr. car he'll be driving next year.
Don't ya just love silly season?

Looks like DEI is ready to pass their mediocre driver on to Hendrick. I stick by my statement that "Jr. is not a great driver and never will be". I doubt his driving record will improve at Hendrick. Wonder who will drive the #8 for DEI after the October race for the rest of the season? This ought to aggravate the Jr. nation not seeing Jr. drive the rest of this season? Eury Jr. needs more than a head start to help out this new #88 driver.

Sandy, you can stick by any statement you like. When was the last time JR didn't get in the Top 10 during a race? It speaks for itself. A 10 year old knows that engines are equipment, and if not for engines it would be quite a different story.

I SO love how 17 career wins is talentless. *g* Then again, Junior haters (just like haters of any driver - I'm not immune to the fact that some Junior fans do the same to other drivers, even Gordon) like to ignore "inflation" in NASCAR. Inflation could be defined as an influx of talent from diverse backgrounds, more dollars spent on racing equipment, equity of racing equipment across the board (just look how close the qualifying times are these days compared to just 5 years ago)...the list goes on. The talent pool these days, in the driver's seats and in the garage, is exceedingly deep. Not just one person makes any team a success. All parts combine to make a success.
But then again, I don't expect haters to take off their blinders long enough to actually look at numbers (all numbers) and make comparisons. That would be too much work and would shatter illusions that they actually know something about the sport. Then again, I freely admit to disliking Gordon (most of the time - not this year because I respect how focused he's been this year) just because. Has nothing to do with talent. It's just fun to root against someone. No malicious intent required.
Anyway, to get on topic with the post...something tells me that Junior won't go to Hendrick before the end of the season without a miracle happening. Eury is one thing, because any chance to get started on the technology as early as possible, that's looked upon favorably in the sport. And the pressure is high on Eury and Hendrick Motorsports to see Junior do well. But it'll be like most instances when someone new joins a team - a solid season (because it's Hendrick), but probably not a championship run. Most likely he'll end up about 8th next year. Chaser, but not contending for the title, truly.

A few weeks ago DEI stated that Mark Martin and Aric Almirilo will be driving the 8 next year and I think they are being sponsoed by the military. There are many drivers that would take Jr's driving record in a second. I don't wish ill-will towards drivers. This is their life and I wish all of them good luck. I hate that David Stremme may not be in this sport next year. I would be dissappointed if it's decided that Junior won't in the Chase Races. But the chase is exciting and I would not be upset if Jr moved to Hendrick. The Jr haters are ust that haters!!! I would like to know why the Junior hates actually hate him. Sandie, why don't you and any other 'haters' let me have it. Tell me why you just cannot stand Jr. Is it Jr or is it 'The Nation'?

Not to suprised Eury Jr leaving early, especially since his dad left early too. I'd love to see Jr get started on next year and slide into a Hendrick ride sooner, but i dont see that happening. You'd think that had Kyle Busch missed the Chase, you could see a scenario where Jr would slide into Mears car early, Smith in Dale Jr's, Mears to Kyle's car, Kyle to Yeley's car, and Yeley replacing Tony Raines and Raines being out the rest of the year. However, i think even if Kyle had missed, i couldnt see it happening for two reasons. One, because Bud wouldnt sign off on it, i think the others would, but not Bud, and the other reason is even if they did, i really dont think Jr would want to leave the 8 car any earlier. I do believe he'll be testing a Hendrick car at Atlanta in a few weeks, but not before the years up. Even with Kyle in the Chase, if he has a few bad runs and knocks him out without a doubt of getting the championship, they could do an early switch, but even if they didnt want to pull Kyle from the 5, they could pull Mears for the rest of the year and put Jr in it, but i wouldnt see that happening either. I'd just love to see Jr get a jump start on next year with Hendrick as Tony Jr is after Talladega.

I'm trying to get a handle on this "driver hater" phenomenon, especially as it relates to my preferred driver:Dale Jr.
To my knowledge, the guy does not get on TV and toot his own horn or belittle other drivers. He drives as cleanly as any other competitor. He won 2 back-to-back Busch series championships. He won "The Winston" as a rookie. He's a Daytona 500 winner. He's won 17 races at the Nextel Cup level. He's in the top 10 or 12 in points every year. He even finishes races for other hotter-headed drivers who depart the track to early after a problem and whose crew repairs their car and makes it fit to return to competition.
If these are the qualities and qualifications necessary for a driver to be hated, then winless, cheating,dirty-driving,trash-talking hooligans are the drivers to be admired,I suppose....

I am not fat. I guess people tell you that you are fat. Jr.'s record speaks alone for his accomplishments. I guess you probably throw full beer cans that hit little children when your driver loses, yet again. Our Constitution affords the citizens of the United States the right to free speech and free thoughts. Why did Jr, not make The Chase....again. When was Jr's last win???? I do believe Jr. fans are name callers as well.

TO Bill I also agree with sandie. Jr is average at the best. It wans't just the motors that kept him out of the chase he never recorved from the 100 point "cheating" that you love to mention about other driver namely HMS. Well we can't wait to have another "cheater" or whiner on our team. He'll fit right in with the whiners and cheaters now won't he?Like sandie said his recor speaks for it self.. 2 Busch Championships wow what do you want us to do turn flips? Jr won because he wasn't up the with the big dogs yet Now he sees how it really is. Those championships came in 2000 and 2001 hello this is 2007 and what has he done. I do agree that Teresa screwed him and she will pay for that. But is also tells you something when she agreed to let JR take 4 of his crew memberse with him ti HMS and ONLY one said they would leave DIE. SO where is the loyalty to JR even from his own crew? Are thay that scared of Teresa?

Sandy may have been a bit harsh by calling Jr mediocre but what some people confuse for HATERS are simply people without the beer goggles on pointing out the facts. Yes, Jr runs in the top ten at some point in almost every race. So does almost every other of the top twenty drivers. It is where you finish that counts. Prime example: Last week Jr pitted out of sequence and as a result lead the race for several laps. When he did finally pit, and the race did actually end, he was in 16th place. The lead laps were great for the fans but meaningless in the end.
Yes, Jr has 17 wins in 8 full years of racing. A record that many other drivers would love to have. Yes, he had ONE year in which he won 6 races. That is something almost EVERY driver would love to do. He also once won 3 races in one year, pretty good. The other 6 years were wins of either 2, 1 and 0. Very average.
Yes, I have heard all the arguments. "No 7 point shaker at DEI." Well, they have one now. If I made around $10,000,000/yr I would either buy one or rent one if I thought it would make a difference. "DEI builds crappy engines." Truex gets the same "crap" Little E gets and yet he finishes a race, he recognizes a bad engine before a race, and he makes it in the Chase.
Sorry, the plain and simple fact is that DEI is not losing their number one driver he is number two at DEI and he will be number 3 at Hendricks.
Those are the facts, not opinions. Maybe now that BUD is not the sponsor maybe some people will take off the beer goggles and see the facts. I guess it is OK to not like Jeff Gordon, just because, but if you do not like JR you are a HATER.

This is in response to 'Sandie's' comments on Dale Jr. Please tell us where you've been. Like his dad, Jr., not only can turn the wheel - he can sense the slipstream. Watch Talledaga. Go Mark Martin!

Getting back on post, this is probably happening AFTER Dega due to the fact it is one of the two "oh so fun to watch restrictor plate" race tracks where Jr has proven he is a winner. If Jr is going to win a race this year, this will be the one. The guy either knows something the other guys don't or he simply knows how to apply what he knows better when you do not get to have all the power the engine builder can manage. 30% of your career victories at one track, the numbers don't lie. Look for him in the top 5 and perhaps a win.
