SPEED will cover an announcement Tuesday at Joe Gibbs racing, where Kyle Busch is expected to announce he'll be in the No. 18 in 2008.Will people actually watch?
SPEED covered the Dale Earnhardt Jr. saga live (just like the FanHouse!) so they must feel that Kyle Busch has the same power for ratings.
I don't see it, but I suppose there a few people that will stop their day, wake up, or at least laugh at the press coverage for an announcement that carries much less weight across the NASCAR Nation as Dale Jr.'s did.
And that's not a diss on Busch.
The announcement also isn't expected to carry any deep surprises or reveal major unknowns like Dale Jr.'s two announcements seemed to carry.
ESPN had a beat on the announcement Sunday night after Watkins Glen:
JGR president J.D. Gibbs acknowledged on Sunday at Watkins Glen International that Busch would replace J.J. Yeley but that the deal had not been completely finalized.None of the rumors have had any public denial issued, either, making one believe that Busch's announcement is pretty much straightened out.
"Right now we feel good about it and the direction we're going," Gibbs said.
ESPN.com reported on Aug. 6 that Busch selected JGR over Chip Ganassi Racing, Dale Earnhardt Inc., Richard Childress Racing and Evernham Motorsports.

I admit that I'll be watching (and have already set an alarm to remind me to turn on the TV at the right time). Admittedly, it won't be nearly as impactful as Junior to Hendrick, especially since this secret wasn't well kept, but I'm interested in seeing the interaction to get an idea of how the dynamics will play out.

You're certainly right about Busch being a baby peaches, and it won't be a dodge he will be driving, it'll be a toyota. I can't wait until the first time shrub pisses off stewart.

Comment # 5:
I agree with you 100%. Stewart's volatile personality along with Busch's volatile personality are just not a good fit. It won't take long for Stewart to show the Shrub that he's his real boss. I am not a Stewart fan by any means, but he will definitely put Kyle in his place once of twice. And if JGR really does sign on with Toyota next year, all of you Stewart fans can kiss off any hope for another championship anytime soon. Toyota has not had a good or even acceptable showing thus far and I don't expect them to next year either.
Just my opinion of course!

I think Stewart will get the championship this year, but he better enjoy it, because if they do go to Toyota, they'll have success, maybe more in the end than they do now, but expect next year to be a bad year for Gibbs. I'd say they might win a race or two at the most, but it'll take time for Gibbs to get Toyota where it needs to be, at least a year. But, however, im not so sure Tony will still be with the team if they switch. From what i hear, it's more than just Gibbs that he's invested with GM and that ive heard rumors from a sponsor threating to pull out from Gibbs if he switches to a clause in Tony's contract that lets him out if they do. I dont know how much truth there is to this, but if they do switch and if Tony stays to drive Toyota, then i think if he fails to compete as well as he does now, he'll just suffer thru it until his contract with Gibbs is up and then he'll retire. As for Jeff Gordon, i think the chase for the rest of his career will cost him any future championships, including this year. Thank god for the chase for the cup!
