Newman: Vick Should Be Neutered, Supporters Are Dumb

NASCAR driver Ryan Newman says that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but ... with regards to Michael Vick:

"His little group has made it clear they fight dogs. People who defend that are slugs. This separates the smart people from the dumb."

Newman and his wife Krissie, who raise funds for animal welfare through The Ryan Newman Foundation and serve as volunteer board members for The Humane Society of Catawba County, hope that the Michael Vick case will bring more attention to dog fighting.

They'll call some attention to it themselves by sporting the t-shirts they had made last week that say: "7 to life" on the front and "Neuter Vick" on the back, which Krissie says Ryan will wear through the end of the season.

Like the Newmans, Greg Biffle and his fiancée Nicole Lunders, founders of The Greg Biffle Foundation, are also outspoken animal rights advocates. Biffle recently spoke out saying that Vick deserves the stiffest punishment available--if found guilty.

Lunders had this to add:

"The accusations against Michael Vick are sickening ...I have seen the after pictures and stories of animal fighting ring busts and it is disgusting and heartbreaking. The torture that the animals endure is horrible. The unfortunate thing is that this has been going on for quite awhile and most dog fighting rings are underground. This case has gotten everyone's attention and I hope that whether he is found guilty or not that people stand up and demand harsher penalties for this crime. I also hope that it will help put an end to this barbaric torture of animals."

As a non-Vick supporter, my hope is for a "smart" jury and swift sentence from a judge like this one, who assigns a punishment that befits the crime.

Dear Newman - I take back anything I've ever said about you and your on track antics (racing the leader when you're a lap car, being pig headed about giving up position, racing too hard early in the race) because this is BEAUTIFUL. I am officially a fan.

The thing that disgusts me the most? All the football guys that keep declaring that there's nothing wrong with dog fighting. I can understand the ones wanting to be there for a friend, because they're not wholesale supporting dog fighting, they're choosing to support a friend (with the implied statement that they think he's innocent). But the idiots that think it's fine? Hell yeah, NASCAR will kick your ass. At least our guys have the balls to say something. Dog fighting is cruel and inhumane. And it's symptomatic of a larger problem in society - the lack of regard for life, human or animal.

Thank you so much for speaking up for the animals, and putting your money where your ethics are!

Just think of all the wonderful things Vick could have done with the money he bet on the dog fights?

It makes me sick, and my children sick. We are NOW going to be NASCAR fans. NFL has too many criminals. The Falcons actually have another player Babineaux that beat his girl friend's pit bull to death, long before the Michael Vick indictment. We live in GA, and just have given up on the Falcons.

My son and I want to buy a T-Shirt. We would wear it proudly!!!! My son saw a pig headed a**hole beat a Rottie and he did the right thing by calling the police. Unfortunletly my son still has nitemares about this.
All you drivers keep up all the great work you do with all the charitites.
I have been a Nascar fan for many years and will always be one.

Hats off to Biffle and Newman, at least they have the ballz to speak out publicly in this matter. Kinda makes you wonder when Helton and the boyz at Nassycar are going to take a stand on this. 12. Shelton and the boys aren't going to touch this issue with a 10 foot pole. They being corporate puppets, what else did you expect?. Since neither Newman or Biffle will probably make the chase, this is their way of making headlines. I could care less what their stand on the charges are, we all know it's disgusting, inhuman and as evil as it gets. Just drive the damn car...

Nascar drivers have class. Members of the NFL...well it seems they just need a warden.
