A merger between Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Ginn Racing would require an immediate reduction from a total of six cars to four in the The current layout/forecast:
Ginn
#01 - Regan Smith/Mark Martin - current plan is for Smith to run Cup full-time in 2008 and Martin to split season again with driver TBD
#13 - Joe Nemechek - car in top 35, driver expendable (sad but true, not attracting enough sponsor $$)
#14 - Sterling Marlin - ditto
DEI
#1 - Martin Truex Jr. - signed through 2008
#8 - Dale Earnhardt Jr. - leaving, open driver seat for 2008, currently rumored to be going to Kyle Busch
#15 - As long as Menards is on the hood, Paul Menard is probably behind the wheel
I'm sure both teams recognize the value of the owner points so it's obvious that Menard would take over one of the Ginn cars in the top 35, and they could probably still sell the other to another team.
In the short run, Smith would probably be able to get some much needed seat time in a DEI Busch Series car, especially if he's still going to get a full-time Cup ride for 2008. Assuming that still happens after a merger, where does that leave Martin? The teams aren't crazy enough to let the veteran get away, are they? Who knows. They're probably not crazy enough to move Smith up to the #8 and give Martin another half a season with a driver TBD, either.
That's just one scenario. They might have more options. I imagine not many of them are high on Budweiser's list, though, except the ones involving Busch.
I'm thinking last week's scenario of DEI acquiring one Ginn team is much more likely than a full-blown merger.
What would be the name of a newly merged company, anyway? DEI/Ginn? TEI/Ginn? Teresa and Bobby's House of
Update: Aric Almirola the #01 driver TBD for 2008

I'd love this for Kyle if he really is going to end up at DEI, but I'm sad for Sterling!

Get over it, the #8 is not felon material so there fore it will remain with DEI!!! with the best driver in Nascar {{KYLE BUSCH!}}}} now that is what DEI has been wanting for the 8, a driver who is good enough to bring that #8 into many championships!!! Let JR be happy in the puke green dew #5 car and bet your farm on it Jr will never give the #% the justice that Kyle did, he can drive anything with wheel's and show how great his driving skills are!! Kyle our champion year after year in the great now {{BUD #8}}}} HAHAHA

damn shame about sterling marlin. What a shameful way to end an illustrious career, thanks to the sponsors' obsession with "young guns". Long live the restrictor plate king and the deserving champion of the 2002 season!

granny you need some glasses if you think kyle busch
is good enough to drive the #8 car.there should only be an earnhardt driving the 8 car.jr is the only one that should be in the 8 car. that was his grandads car #.and thats who dale sr. wanted in the car. teresa should be ashamed the way she has treated his older kids.but that will come back to haunt her.kyle tears up a car every week at hendrick.he very cocky and has no respect for the other drivers, not even his brother kurt.of wich has come along ways.[kurt]

Taking six cars and eight drivers and getting down to four teams takes some work -- especially if you are thinking about adding a ninth driver (Kyle Busch). I think I've figured out how they MIGHT do it.

Some people gave TGOM some grief when the #13 and #14 didn't get shut down last Monday. The timing was off, but the story was right.
When will people learn? Don't screw with TGOM.

What about Kyle Busch and Kellog to DEI for the 8 and Budwiser. This seems to be the natural trade. No driver in there right mind would want to drive the red 8 with Bud as the sponcer. So make the trade and everybody will be happy.

Angela, Granny already got glasses and see darn good! There are Kerry Earnhardt and his son's SRS grandsons that are staying with DEI and they are every bit as worthy as JR to drive the #8 car but i sure pray that my bot {{KYLE}} is in that ride and you all hate that idea cause you all know that Kyle will make Jr look as weak a driver as he really is and Kyle will out drive him in the {{BUD #8}} with {{KYLE}} mann9ing the wheel and Jr in the puke green #5 will be laging as usual!!! Kyle is the best driver in Nascar and you know it ,to bad your Jr just was not born with the talent of his dad!! OH!! Wait, it some how went to {{KYLE}} HAHAHAHA Go get em Kyle, the way we know you will!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a tough one! There are so many scenarios. If i had control over it, i'd do it like this:
#1 car=Truex Jr
#01 car= Mark Martin/Aric Amirola
#14 car= Sterlin Marlin
#15 car=Kyle Busch or somebody talented
Now that's me personally. But it could work like that except they'll sell the #8 seeing how they'll have their choice between #01, 1, 13, 14, 15 which all have the # 1 in them, a matching them which occurs alot in owners, ie RCR=29,30,31,33, and 3, all which he has run at one point or Ganassi= 40,41, 42 and so forth. There's no #1 in #8 so sell it, drop 13, the unlucky number, and if they sign a big free agent like Kyle Busch or Greg Biffle, they'll land a sponsor no problem, and instead of Sterlin in my line up, Menard sponsor with Paul, even though that's a waste in my opinion.
As far as #13 owner points, im curious since RCR now has a tie to DEI, if they might go, whether sold or not, to RCR's fourth team he's really wanting to start, which in turn could be the lil bit that pushes Kyle or Greg to maybe take the RCR ride? All interestin points! Only the future holds the answer. But i do think if this merger could some how open the door for Dale Jr to depart soon(would be shocked if he did), i wonder if there's a chance he'd maybe replaced disgruntled Kyle and get rid of a huge headache off Hendrick's hands? Again, i'd be suprised, but it wouldnt be the first time this sport has!

Actually there is something else i would change on my line up:
#1 car= Army sponsor+Mark Martin/Aric Amirola
#13 car= Menard sponsor+Paul Menard
#14 car= Bud sponsor+Sterlin Marlin or someone talent
#15 car= Bass Pro sponsor+Martin Truex Jr
Since DEI has the #1, id give Truex a new number, drop the #01 crap(in my opinion, as many numbers as there are between 0-99, i think numbers 01,00,07 and any other's like it should be done away with altogether) and give the Army car the #1 to run. The commercial says an army of one, not an Army of Oh-one!

I think this would be a good move for Ginn, since the cost to compete is not cheap. However, I can not but feel empathy for Joe Nemeckek when economics is putting a talented driver out of the sport.
