Following Denny Hamlin's victory in Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 300, NASCAR found that two of his competitors were riding a little low.The Chevrolets of Kyle Busch and Johnny Sauter both failed postrace technical inspection on the left front side, according to the Charlotte Observer.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said both cars would be taken to NASCAR's research and development center in Concord, N.C., to confirm the measurements taken at the track.
The teams face potential penalties if the violations are confirmed, but Poston said they would not be considered along the same lines as other penalties for "tampering with the car of tomorrow."
Hendrick Motorsports could now have three crew chiefs -- yes, count 'em, three -- sidelined due to technical violations. A points penalty for Sauter would put him right on the edge of the top-35.And you just know that every Hendrick hater out there is going to be drawing the connection that exists with engines between Haas CNC Racing and Hendrick, inferring that this is just another example of Rick Hendrick being a terrible person.
Right.
The real question though is if NASCAR will deliver a COT penalty with the same consistency as they've promised.
And since has NASCAR had to "confirm" a car being too low? Do they use a different measuring system at the R&D center? Why wasn't Jeff Gordon's Gatorade 125 car taken to the center after not measuring correctly at Daytona?
Odd.

This will turn out to be another of NASCAR's "It's not illegal, we just don't like it" type of infractions. They continue to try to prove that they are in charge. Maybe Tony was right to compare NASCAR to professional wrestling. The judges can decide the outcome of the contest without even having a clearly written rulebook. The COT is going proving to be more costly to run than the car of yesterday because teams are now taking them to several non NASCAR tracks for much needed testing. It was said on the SPEED channel earlier today, "If these cars can't pass each other, our sport is in danger". I agree.

We will have to wait and see what the penalties are. I don't think Rick Hendrick is a terrible person. I guess he has just hired people who don't play by the rules. Chad Knaus ought to be fired, I was not aware how many times he has been busted for not playing by the book. Jr. is going from one cheating team to another it appears.

i watched a COT race for the first time this season and i t was the most boreingness race i ahve ever watched in my life i swear it looked like all the cars was running in slow motion they couldnt pass there really wasnt anything to the race to really hold my attention to it until the last 15 laps when gordon battled truex for second then went after denny and got him loose off of turn 4 congrats to denny on his win. nascar needs to step back again and realize that there car of tomorrow is already hurting the sport that many of us have grown to love the car of yesterday is a much better car and they handle much better than the piece of shit that they are being forced to drive today in the cot if nascar is going to make this change then all i repeat all teh rules needs to be put in writeing to were all the teams knows what they are tony was right nascar is a spin off now of the wwe and that bunch of jerk offs nascar u are looseing fans and u dont even know it

This season's results seem "scripted"...delaying the postime of a race so that the communications in Jeff Gordon's helmet could be fixed, yellow flagging the Pocono race just as Newman was to take the lead from Jeff Gordon (Gordon"s car was not going to finish well...brakes issues if the race had continued). The fines for any violation should be 250K, car parked for that race, and crew chief not allowed contact with team for 3 races.

Bringing a car in for post race/qualifying inspection that is 1/8" too low isn't cheating. It is one of those things that just happens.
On the other hand, having your pit crew cut your tires so you can make an illegal tire change and beat up some local racers the way Kyle Busch is alleged to have done is.
http://ccrnascar.blogspot.com/2007/07/is-kyle-busch-nascars-worst-cheater.html
If Busch did this, HMS and Kellogg's need to cut ties now.

The period between 1947 and 1987 were the years when NASCAR was at its best. The drivers drove to win regardless of who they had to knockout of the way to accomplish it. The crew chiefs never played by the rules and were always trying to make the car faster. The owners were loyal to their teams and never traded or abandoned their driver before his contract expired. Fans were loyal to the very end to the driver they chose to root for. And most of all NASCAR did not interfer when a driver drove his car to win not to come in second. Hell, as the Late Great Dale Sr would always say to a reporter after spinning Geoff Bodine into the infield, "That Was Just Racing" and believe me, we fans loved it.
That was the time when a driver could intentionally push a lead car out of the way to win the race and he was cheered by the fans for doing so, not fined by NASCAR for aggressive driving
That was the time during which Saturday night fights were held at your local dirt track speeways, A time when the sport was truly a SOUTHERN REDNECK pure pleasurer to watch. Hell, it someetimes happened on a good Sunday afternoon at the "Lady in Black" known as Darlinton S.C. Speedway, such shenanigans has all been in swept under the rug by the new corporate world of NASCAR. Those of us who are old enough to remember those times have a treasure that will be with us for eternity. You "Johnny Come Latelies" will just have to be satisfied with cry baby drivers and NASCAR rules, rules and more rules. Guys let me tell you, there is not enough money to buy the memories that I have of NASCAR when it was a good ole boys southern sport

It seems Hendrick Motors has had way too many violations. Maybe NASCAR needs to inspect the entire Hendrick organization to find out why they a so strong compared to other Chevy's. I wonder!!!!!!

NASCAR Stands for NOT A SINGLE CARS ALLOWED TO RACE. JEEZ!!!!!!! Will the teams be fined for not enough air in the tires? Or maybe too many decals on the car? Gee maybe we should have a pre race weigh - in and a post race weigh out of the pit crew.
As far as I'm concerned COT means CRAP ON THE TRACK And that's just what NASCAR is doing to the race fans. These cars would't even make a good ride at Disneyland.Wouldn't be hilarious is they gave a race and no one showed up? Maybe they should make Vince McMahan the director of NASCAR. At least he'd make it interesting for the fans. The first thing I know he would do is change the name. He'd have to put out a little money to do this. Buy a rival assosiation then he could use the name. HMMM ya can't figure out what he'll call it. OK Ok I'll tell ya here it comes
***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS
The way NASCAR is acting doesn't that name seem fitting?? Bring back the real racing and the fans will appreciate it.

I don't blame any of these drivers, teams, or owners for supposed "cheating". I blame NASCAR! They have been so "vague" in their rules for the car of tomorrow and so "vague" in the allowances alloted to each car/driver, that they are being unfair to all the race car drivers, owners, and teams, not just Hendrick! Of course everyone will turn this into a Hendrick is always cheating to win thing or NASCAR is allowing them to cheat so they can supposedly let their "golden boy" Jeff Gordon win. All these theories are crap! The COT is new to all teams. Some are getting a better hold on it than others. Believe you me, there will be more penalties and more offenders before the year is over. It won't just be Hendrick Motor Sports. NASCAR needs to get it together already. Enough is enough!
And might I also add that other teams have gotten caught this year "cheating" with the COT, too besides Hendrick. Harvick's car failed inspection once and Michael Waltrip supposedly "cheated" by trying to use illegal fuel. It's not just Hendrick. All the teams are having trouble with NASCAR's vague descriptions of what the teams can and can't do with the new COT.

Okay...so there might be gray areas...but Chad Knaus has been caught more than twice. I am a #1 Jeff Gordon Fan. I am a Rick Hendrick Fan as well, but I think Chad Knaus has become a big embarrassment to the Hendrick organization. It is wrong to put a driver out for a race because they just drive the car the crew chief gives them and the driver has nothing to do with how their car is put together. Hardly fair to punish the driver. Repeat offenders like Knaus should be put out longer than six races. Maybe another blogger is correct and they need to start another team like they did with the Indy cars. I agree the COT races are not as much fun as the current car. Maybe these crew chiefs should inquire of NASCAR before they work in the "gray" areas and there would not be accusations of cheating.

I think NASCAR has screwded around enough with the rules changes. They should let the drivers drive what they bring to the track, like in the goog ol days. I find myself less & less interested than say 10 -15 years ago. They need to get rid of the all cars shall be equal BS & throw that template away. If you don't have what it takes to run wide open, stay off the track. I think you would find a completely different leader board year in & year out. I say if they want to drive a certain model, let them get it race ready like the 60's & 70's. I would bet over half of today's fan have never seen a driver lap the field. There were no inspections. All that changed when Donnie Allison hit the fence and scared NASCAR in 87. No more true stock car racing after that. With the rules today, there is less true competition because all the cars are the same.
Randy in Texas via Tennessee in 1980. I remember drivers lapping the field because they were driving stock cars with a great deal of modification. But it was so exciting

NASCAR has shot itself in the foot so many times here lately, I'm surprized there isn't a leanto by the logo. I grew up watching in the late 60's & all through the 70's & the 80's. I can't understand why they bent over for the Govt to take Winston from the name while cars still drive with alcohol & liquor sponsors. I started smoking long before Winston became involved. They are going to lose their loyal fan base with alll this rule change horse shit. I say let them drive what they bring. I would go as far as saying the majority of today's fan has never seen a driver lap the field. It's not the car that wins the race. It is the driver. If they are scared, like the late great Earnhardt said, "they don't belong on the track" It was so much more entertaining when it was dubed a "redneck sport" Maybe they are trying to protect the feeble & scared drivers that sponsers like. NASCAR fell victim to the Govt when they agreed to remove Winston from their Logo. We see plenty of alcohol sponsers & pill pedlers on the cars. Let them race what they bring & all bets are off when the green flag falls just like it used to be. Petty & Pearson & those types pushed you out of their way if you didn't have enough sense to move & nothing was ever said. That was what made it so entertaining. I don't think any of the racers today would intentionallly push someone into the wall endangering their lives. But spinning them through the infield shouldn't be punished if the slower driver want move over. I also say throw that template away & let them build stock cars & compete. I think that would losen alot of right feet. I loved watching them race at Daytona & Talladega when they were topping 220mph. Look back at the Top 10 finishers in the late 70's through 87 when they installed restrictor plates. You'll see a pattern of about 10 -12 drivers up front every year. Thwe rest had light right feet. NASCAR has fallen into the hands of corporate greed. All these cars failing post race inspection doesn't add up. They passed pre-race inspection. Ther is alot of bumping & banging during a race. that might answer the template mismatch. As for the restrictor plates, I think they know who would win 90% of all those races if they took them off. It would spead the field & make it safer also. I'm slowly losing interest because of all the chickenshit rules & suspensions for violations that shouldn't be there to start with. Hell if they can get them to run 230mph I'd be happy. The open wheel cars consistantly run these speeds. I think there are a large amount of today's drivers that don't have what it takes to run against oposition that is completly different from their own. I say let them run as fast as possible & have a sport that resembles what got them to where they are today. Randy MEM97lht#aol.com
