Add Forbes magazine to the list of those who don't count NASCAR drivers as athletes. Or celebrities. On Friday, the business magazine released The World's Most Powerful Celebrities, its annual list of the world's most powerful--and best-paid--celebrities.
While former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher and his successor Kimi Raikkonen made the list, there's not a single NASCAR driver on the list. Granted, they have higher incomes, but ...
To generate the list, Forbes "analyzes celebrity earnings, plus media metrics like Google hits, press mentions as compiled by Lexis/Nexis, TV/radio mentions from Factiva and the number of times an A-lister appears on the cover of 32 major consumer magazines."
I find it extremely difficult to believe that Dale Earnhardt Jr. was not among the celebrities topping the media metrics.
He made one of the biggest announcements in the sport's history this year and was reported in more mainstream news outlets than probably any NASCAR story since his father's death in 2001. There has been no shortage of media coverage.
There was also the little matter of him announcing that he had this girl he was seeing back in January, which I can personally attest led to thousands of searches for "dale earnahrdt jr. girlfriend" that led inquirers to the Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Girlfriend category on Answer this...
Not to mention Junior's estimated $20M annual income, which dwarfs several celeb on the list, including IRL driver Danica Patrick, whose annual income Forbes reports as $4M. Is it even comprehensible that she's on the list and Junior is not?
And the Food Network's "queen of southern cuisine and home-cooking" is on the list at #99. Cooking with Paua Deen. Hmmmph. How about Hallucinating with Forbes? I want some of what they're on.
What up, Forbes?

Now I know why I've never bought a Forbes mag and after the way they have done Nascar drives I never will and I'm sure they don't really care but there's lots of millionaire rednecks that love Nascar and I'd like to see somebody from Forbes try to drive on a Nascard track.....Forbes needs to get their heads out of the sand. Hey you could have sold mags with Teresa and Dale on the cover and to say that have no athletic ability that is just crazy....1,000,000 plus fans can't be wrong..Forbes is just to goodie two shoes for the "Grease Monkeys" we nascar car fans love....try looking into one of those company garages...find a drip of grease and hey they go first class...Forbes needs to get a life...wonder if Vince McMahon made it...oh I forgot he "died" suppposedly last week....now he is a no class act and anybody can hit a golf ball...you need new leadership wanna sell more mags....add a nascar section....business is business and I will buy even mags I don't like if there's something about Nascar in them...you have to cater to everybody....just because you don't like nascar does not mean your readers don't WAKE UP

You commenters are hilarious. Like any NASCAR fan ever read Forbes Magazine.
Strike that, instead of "Forbes Magazine" put in "anything more advanced than a third grade textbook."
Yee haw!

Amen , brother!! These Nascar hillbilly lippits make me laugh. What the hell would you, or any of you, do with a Forbes magazine?? Listen, little E is rich because of his daddy...period! If it weren't for his last name you would never hear of him because he is a no talent punk who can't win races. His record is pathetic. He would be out of racing if not for his name. NASCAR is a pathetic joke.

I GUESS THOSE OLD RUMORS ABOUT JEFF GORDON BEING GAY WEREN'T TRUE, HUH? IT'S FUNNY- WHEN THEY PLAY THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE RACE THE CAMERAS WILL FOCUS ON SOME OF THE MORE FAMOUS DRIVERS. WHEN THEY SHOW GORDON OR JOHNSON THEY'RE ALMOST ALWAYS WITH A PRETTY WOMAN. I DON'T REMEMBER EVER SEEING DALE JR. WITH ONE. WOULDN'T IT BE CHILDISH AND STUPID IF I STARTED A RUMOR LIKE THAT ABOUT HIM? I WOULD NEVER DO IT, BUT THEN AGAIN I WOULD NEVER ACT LIKE A SPOILED BRAT AND THROW MY TOYS ON TO THE TRACK IF I DIDN'T GET MY WAY.

Once again Nascar fan over estimates this one horse sport. Schumacher is the most famous driver in the WORLD! Do you think that anyone out side of America is going to Google up Dale Jr. or even Sr. This is a niche sport for the arrogant American, cause they can pronounce the names, attend all the races and continue living in the past with re-manufactured classic cars, classic motorcycles and show the world that we have no innovation and enjoy driving in a circle.

NASCAR is the opiate of the people. Something to dumb down those who are already dumb. Just look at the pictures from the NASCAR races center field. Women so drunk or drugged they spend the day running around without clothing for the pleasure of really drunk jerks who haven't a clue. Just a thought about this country on the brink of going under. Too stupid to survive.

TO OLD MAN- I LOVE YOUR OPTIMISM. A FEW YEARS AGO I WOULDN'T HAVE SAT DOWN TO WATCH A NASCAR RACE- A BUNCH OF GUYS GOING ROUND AND ROUND FOR 500 MILES-BIG DEAL. BUT I'VE DISCOVERED IT'S A LOT MORE THAN THAT. THE TEAMS, DRIVER PERSONALITIES, PIT STRATEGIES, THE DIFFERENT TRACKS, THE VARIOUS CARS, THE POINTS CHASE, ETC. NOW I LOVE IT. TO DRTH VADR- YOU REALLY SHOULD TRY TO CONTROL YOUR JEALOUSY- IT WILL BE YOUR UNDOING.

Friends just bought a new RV for the races, they are an I.R.S. agent and the head of a Construction Company, they spent $50,000 on it because they felt for the amount of races they get to attend spending more really wasn't necessary. Quite a few of those people partying in the infield have 250,000 and up priced R.V.'s they spend thousands of dollars to get to the infield and that is before merchandise at the track. Price a weekend at the races, best tailgate party in town and they draw many from all over the country and sometimes the world. Don't believe me check the facts before assuming all fans are redneck hillbillies.
Only the uneducated would think that people stereotyped as redneck hillbillies could afford what is spent at a race in one weekend. Just because they have a great time at the races doesn't mean they aren't well educated.
