This morning, Dale Earnhardt Jr. became the most eligible free agent in the history NASCAR--or so we all assume.Junior and his sister, Kelley a.k.a. "The Negotiator," did everything they could to make it work with DEI, but at the end of the day, the two parties weren't even close in terms of what Junior is worth to the company as a driver.
Now Junior is about to find out what he's worth to others and willing to listen to anyone that has something to offer. And by something, he doesn't mean money.
What he requires: a long-term situation, a chance to win championships and an opportunity to grow JR Motorsports.
What he wants: to drive a Chevy.
Junior's options, in order of his preference:
| Fanhouse Odds |
|
| To drive for a top-tier team | 3:1 |
| To drive for a second-tier team | 6.7:1 |
| To start his own Cup team at JRM | 8:1 |
Let the bidding war commence.

It'd be weird to see the #3 running again. His dad built DEI. Let Jr. build his own legacy.......He can't live in the shadows all of his life.Has he even came close to winning the cup at DEI?

Although this has almost certainly been an extremely difficult time for Dale Jr., I think there will probably come a time when he looks back on this time as one of the most important turning points in his life. It took this to cut him loose, to set him free, and to make him take charge of his own destiny. It won't be easy, certainly, but it will free him up to do what it takes and make his own destiny. Good for him! Luck isn't something that happens to us. It's something we make! Go for it, Dale Jr.!

if you look at the pictures of jr you will see the pained expression on jr,s face it was probably the hardest decsion of his life. but it will be the best decsion he has ever made, he will find a team that will put him back in the winning circle again where he can again contend for the championship and be ever bet as good as his dad wanted him to be. so heads up jr charge on be all that you were ment to be.you are doing what your dad set out for youto do but it wont be with DEI.

I think DEI made a big mistake his step mother was greedy now lost the golden goose I think alot of sponsers won't even want to put there ads on a DEI car after this year seeing what she did to americas son.
I think he is going down the right path ,his dad didn't drive for himself, I think he'd be a great fit with RCR and have RCR supply a car to race though JR motorsports and have martin truex jr. run that.
I think all the companies with money to spend will most likey shy away from DEI I think it was greedy and stupid of his stepmom to not GIVE him 51% and with him gone she'll lose millions!
Well Jr. best of luck to you you have the talent now its your chance to get in a super team car.

Dale Jr is not a complicated man. He knows what him and his sister was trying to do in making his Dad's business worth driving for. I believe Dale will go back to RCR and drive his dad's #3 car and that is the best thing that he can ever do. Dale Earnhardt will live on forever.

Jr. made the right choice at the the right time.I am a Jeff gordon fan and I would love too see jeff take jr. just like he did jimmie, be part owner with jr, this way jr. has hendrix power, their knowledge and he's still part owner of his own company. win win all around! It'll be like the yankees of nascar.star after star.Oh by the way this would not hurt the sport, see jeff get pissed at jimmie a few weks ago it would be awesome to see three of 'em battling each other for the title in 08" great for the sport

I like Dale Jr as a person, but what drives me crazy is all the attention he gets just because he is the "most popular" driver. There are easily ten drivers in Nextel better than he is. This is a guy that has won two races in two years. Everyone keeps blaming it on the cars, but I bet if Jimmie Johnson(and I hate Jimmie Johnson) got into Junior's car he would win with it. Thats the difference between a good driver and one living on a name. It's always someone elses fault. I tell you what I think would be hilarious: if he signs with Hendrick. All these obnoxious JR fans that always bash and hate on those guys would have to eat a lot of crow! I am a lifelong Mark Martin fan, so I sympathize with all the Junior fans out there that will never see him win a championship. At least he can visit his good friend Matt Kenseth and see his Winston Cup Trophy anytime he wants.

I have been and will always be a Dale Earnhardt fan and one of my first reactions was that I never wanted to see a BLACK #3 in a NASCAR race again. Now with the prospect of His son and namesake taking the wheel of that same car I feel as everyone of Dales' fans that it would be fitting for Dale Jr to bring the number back to NASCAR and in the process bring RCR more championships with the number 3. Good Luck Jr in whatever you decide I think you can guess my preference but I'm sure wherever you go you will make a difference for the better

I feel that Dale Jr. Has established a great name for himself and stands not in his dad's shadow but his own. He Dad was a great driver and I appreciate all that Dale Earnhart did for the sport and for the fans of which I was one. Dale Jr. Has got a good business head on his shoulders and I am sure he will build up his company and drive for RCR I don't see other options

I am certain that the stress and discontent that has existed within the DEI Group since "Sr's" death, all of the confusion and the greed demonstrated by Teresa has affecred "Jr's" ability to perform to his natural capacity. The fact that DEI seemingly cannot set up any car for any track is certainly not in any way the fault of "Jr" and should be accounted for as to his lack of wins over these past seasons!
From the very moment that "Sr" died, Teresa has done nothing but attempt to receive every dime that she can put her hands on. First, she sues a life insurance company for several million dollars. Throughout her tenure as the owner of DEI, she has done nothing but use "Jr's" name to increase her wealth via promotions and advertising, while not even as much as attend any of the races!
When this is all over, she'll end up having to sell DEI at which time "Jr" can write a check for far less than the rumored $50-$75 Million that she proposed to him initially, and he'll own DEI and be free of this BITCH forever!

Junior has made the right move. There is no future
driving for a losing company ie: DEI. The right move
now would be give very strong feeling with going with
RCR.This would be the right avenue to follow, but not
drive the number 3 car. Junior has a right to his own
idenity, and to make a name for himself in racing. I'm
sure he will with RCR make the right choice for a number to drive under.

Everyones comments are great. I agree he made a wise decision to leave DEI. While trying for him it was the right one. The last two seasons he has been stressed by situations outside of racing and it has affected his results. While I will support Jr. in whatever decision he makes, I hope he does not go to Hendricks. It just seems like too much. The true balance and best fit is Joe Gibbs. Imagine, Jr., Smoke, and Hamlin! That would be awesome and give the Hendrix boys a run for their money. As far as the number 3 at RCR. I really hope he stays away from that. He IS his own man and must stay that way. The real question is......WHO HAS THE BALLS TO DRIVE THE NUMBER 8 NEXT YEAR?!?!?
