David Stremme slid three spots to 17th in the points standings this week after suffering his first DNF of the season in Richmond. But the "fat and out of shape" driver is back on track already.
Stremme topped yesterday's practice sessions at Lowe's Motor Speedway with a top speed of 187.000 mph in the second session.
No other driver even came close--Jeremy Mayfield came in 2nd almost two seconds behind Stremme at 185.134mph.
Paul Menard, Ward Burton and Reed Sorenson rounded out the top 5.
If these guys are fastest in practice, how come we never see them running in the top spot -- or even the top 5? Of those five drivers, only Stremme and Sorenson have cracked the top 10 with an 8th and 9th place finish respectively.
So ... what's the difference between practice and racing?

I would hate to race Chip's test team. There is no doubt that Chip Ganassi Racing has fast cars, but what is in question is who is behind the wheel during the race. David may be fat and our of shape, but if that is true then Kasey Kahne has less personality than a tree stump. Geez, Kasey, how about a little tact for your Wrigley teammate, weren't you a lap down?? Quit being so bitter for driving for an owner who is about to give up half his team to his future ex-wife. Reed Sorenson should worry more about driving the car and less about why he is not getting "his". This sport is a grind Reed. Show us you are the superstar you really are. And for that matter, Jimmy E. how about using a good strategy to win a race? Please. Juan, you are the man. Chip will build you the car to win. The only thing holding you back is Donnie W.

This reminds me of back when Sterling Marlin called Biffle a Bug Eyed Dummy. Never have I gotten so much fun out of a nickname. And the funny thing is, I like Biffle and Stremme. I guess it's the silly factor. (Especially considering Stremme's season versus Kasey's season.)
I've been anxiously awaiting the first big "first time" win of the season and have hopes that it'll be "Fat and Out of Shape".

First, yes, I am a bit late in responding to this article.
Second, although I did not think what Kasey said was very nice, I laughed hysterically at the title of this article.
The thing that makes me laugh is according to ESPN David Stremme is 5'9 and 180 pounds. I am Johnny Sauter fan, who, according to ESPN is 5'11 and 200 pounds. If Stremme is fat and out of shape, what does that make Johnny?
